Someone somewhere in that page posted a wide picture is the usual cause.
Occasionally, it's a messed up url that was posted.
Hit the "Notify Moderator" when that happens and we can usually fix it.

If the hard drive is good, you can take it out and put it in another computer and save the data. I use slide in hard drives here so for me it's a no brainer and I have done it for several people.
If the hard drive is the problem, there are some business's that "may" be able to retrieve the data but usually it costs an arm and a leg :(.

You may find in the future that Toyota is not the only one with runaway problems. I have had my Cadillac with a Northstar engine do it to me three times. The first time was really scary but I just stood on the brake to get it under control. I just turned off the engine and restarted and it was fine again.
Each time that fixed the problem so there is some kind of glitch in the Cad software. Because of my driving experience, I was able to cope and react but I also would not expect the normal driver to be able to much less an elderly person or the usual housewife.
Toyota will not be the end of this problem.
