North Carolina Campground

We will be heading north from FL to DE this Sunday. We have done this 1,000 mile trip in two days or three days. This year we would like to do the trip in 3 days and am looking for campgrounds on the northern end of I-95 in NC. There is a campground that opened a year or two ago on the very northern end of I-95 in NC. I forget the name and I can't find it when I do a search. Does anyone know the name of this park and if so can they provide any info about it? Thanks for any help you provide.

RE: Will the Front heater keep the MH warm traveling

Does your M/H have the Motorade (sp?) feature. Many Winnebagos (and probably others) have this and it will keep the whole coach warm while driving. Believe our dash heater would provide adequate heat for the driver/passenger area in temps 40 degrees and above.

RE: Crystal Lake Village, Wauchula, FL

Barney,
We are booked from early January through late March at 2463 Mountain Laurel Lane. I see you are from Michigan...lots of folks there from that state. In fact they have a "Michigan Day" at the Recreation Hall sometime in February. BTW, they have added a security gate this year (guess it is now a "gated community") so you will have to arrive between the hours of 9 and 5 to pick up your gate opening device. Hope to see you at Crystal Lake. Have a safe trip south.

RE: Crystal Lake Village, Wauchula, FL

We have stayed there for the past three winters and plan to go back this year. It is a very friendly park with great facilities. The park is approx. 80% permanent sites with park models and double wides. There are a lot of activities including golf leagues, shuffle board, bocci ball, trips (it has its own bus), bingo, cards, swimming pool, exercise classes, etc. Each site has a concrete patio and all roads are paved. There are several inexpensive local restuarants that serve good food. All in all we think it is a good value. Should add that there is a Super WalMart about a mile away which is quite handy. We think Crystal Lake is a good value. Good luck.

RE: Towing an older Ranger

I towed a 1996 Mazda B3000 pickup 15,000 miles. It had a manual transmission. Had no problems. The Mazda B Series and the Ford Rangers are the same except for trim. Good luck.

RE: What to do about Gater in the middle of the road?

I believe recapped tires should be illegal on trucks. I don't know the financial implication of this to the trucking industry but it is probably significant. However, from a macro perspective some of this would be offset by the injuries, deaths and damages that are caused by the gators. Just yesterday we were returning home from having some maintenance work done to our motorhome when we saw two vehicles fun over the same gator. They both stopped. I don't know what their damages were. About a half mile up the road we saw a big 10 wheel dump truck stopped and the driver was checking his tires. We avoided the gator this time but might not be so lucky the next time. Does anyone know if any pressure has ever been applied to the trucking industry to do anythying about this? And help me if I am wrong but my assumption is that a very high percentage of the gators are the result of recaps that have separated from truck tires. Thanks.

RE: Pilot Stations tenders offer for Flying J

I hope Pilot repairs the Flying J card readers. Virtually every Flying J I stop at (except the new one in Kenly, NC) has a card reader that is very difficult to read or doesn't work at all. It is not unusual to have to go inside and get them to start the pump and then go in afterwards and pick up the credit card slip. Frustrating.
BTW, hate to be negative but I don't have high expectations that things will be better under Pilot ownership. I do like that most Flying J's have separate islands for RV's.

RE: winter camp site

I think it is wrong to paint all of Florida with the same brush. There is a lot of hustle and bustle along each coast and it can be quite pricey there too. We stay in Wauchula which is about 15 miles west of Sebring. This part of Florida is much like the RGV (we spent a winter there) in terms of culture and price (we pay $450/mo + electric). The good thing about it is you don't have the wind. Another factor for us is driving distance. Florida is about 800 miles closer. We enjoyed our time in the RGV and may return sometime. This is just to say that not all parts of Forida are anti snowbird. The locals in the area we are in make us feel quite welcome.

RE: Apple Island Resort, South Hero, VT

We camped there for a few nights about two years ago. It's a nice campground. It does have a lot of permanent sites but they were well maintained. If you play golf there's a small 9 hole course there. We didn't have our clubs with us so they loaned us a couple (old) sets. We winter in Florida and attend the Tampa RV show and see them at the booth they have there. So they are obviously still going strong. Think you will enjoy your stay. Good luck.

Digital Converters; Pass Through or not

What are the practical advantages of having a converter with the pass through feature? Can you use the bedroom TV with the converter connected to the main TV? What about the VCR, does the pass through provide something that the non pass through doesn't? Is switching to Cable easier with the pass through? I have two non pass through converters but don't want to hook them up if they have serious limitations. Thanks in advance for your help.

RE: Protect a Tow install - difficult??

Easy to install. Four eye bolts on the motorhome bumper and two in the front of the towed vehicle (believe they are each 27" off center). I have a 2008 CR-V and attached the eye bolts in the rubber/plactic facia under the front bumper. The eye bolts come with good sized washers which help spread the load. I used heavy duty wire ties at the PAT corners on the end near the toad to increase the attachment length and take some of the tension off the system. Towed the CR-V to Florida and back over the winter with no problems. Good luck.

RE: Workhorse Brake Recall, NHTSA Campaign 09V110000

I have a W-20 and have had no brake problems. Since I have seen nothing that says the W-20 is included in the recall I assume that it is not. Is that the correct assumption? Are the brakes on the W-20 the same as the brakes on the W-22?
You might want to re-read the recall notice. W-20 is the first one listed.
D & M,
You are correct. It is right there. I should have read the recall notice before posting. I was responding to the topic which referenced the W-22 only.

RE: Protecting toads from road debris

Ron,
An elastic cord is used around the perimeter of the protective mesh. A piece of PVC pipe is used to span the mesh from side to side. It fits above the tow bar and is used to create tension so that it doesn't fold or flap excessively while underway. The PVC pipe is in three sections and has an elastic cord that connects them and is collapsible. It's easy to use (although it does add one more step to the towing process)and does a good job.

RE: Delaware State Park - Which one

We live near Trap Pond State Park and camp there about once a year. Most of the sites are large (particularily on "A" Loop) and if you want 50 amps it's available on "A" Loop. Believe the sites are easier to get in and out of than those at Killen's Pond. Trap Pond is a fairly typical State Park...no concrete patios or pads but they do have picnic tables and fire pits. They have an excellent 5 mile bike path if you enjoy bicycling. Good luck.
