RE: Winegard GM-MP1

Its cute but whay not just buy a $20 tripod and get a used dish on Craigslist for $10? I put wingnuts on the dish fasteners so it comes apart for flat storage.

RE: Foreclosure of Elite R.V. resort takes campers by surprise

WOW! I am surprised. I thought Elite had deep pockets. I wonder what will happen to those that bought lots? We really like RC and hope they keep it rolling. I thought they had sold more than 7 lots. Probably won't affect Ocala as that is sold out.

RE: Trailer brakes on a diesel Pusher

Who made your chassis? My 05 Freightliner was prewired. I found the harness in a bundle of wires under the dash by the steering column. Once found, the install was a snap. Why pay someone to do it?

RE: Changing a tire on a diesel pusher

I had a blowout on my DP not long ago. The tire guy brought a new tire out and mounted it on the coach (it was an outside rear). Took about ten minutes. He put blocks under the leveling jack, chocked the wheels, and up she went. It was amazing how fast he had that tire off and back on; no wasted movements. I would never do it myself uunless it was extreme circumstances.

RE: Tampa to New Orleans - Nice stop?

We often stay Kellys in White Springs on 41 (just off 10) when we go that way. About $20 and they have free wifi. Shady, pleasant, nice folks.

RE: Price for a DP Oil Change

$179 for oil, lube, all filters at the drive thru place at 326 and I-75 just north of Ocala. Checked the differential, too. $25 upcharge for CAT filters if you want them. Across the street from the Freightliner dealer, who is $300 for the same service.

RE: Gas to Diesel Driving: What will I notice?

but as far as a softer ride the 130-150 lbs of air in the chassis bags will still jar your teeth and rattle the TV and everything above the dash on bridge joints and highway sections. This is exactly the opposite of my experience. My gas coaches crashed and jarred you like a lumber wagon. I broke a hot water heater fitting and cracked the dash on our Pursuit on the NJ Thruway and the Holiday Rambler slung the dishes out of the cabinent once on a dip. DP is silent and rides like its on pillows. You should check your air pressure or something.

RE: Gas to Diesel Driving: What will I notice?

Had two gas coaches; admittedly pre-2000. Now have an 05 Freightliner with a CAT C-7. 860 ft. lbs of torque@1400 RPM or thereabouts. To me, it really isn't about the power up the hills, although that is nice. I detested having a 3500 RPM motor screaming and throwing all that heat at my feet up long grades and the hump which restricted footroom. The best part is the terrific brakes and engine braking. Going down long, 8% grades without using the footbrake. It stops really well. Its knowing that if you lose air pressure, the brakes will stop you anyway. Its the air suspension and never having my teeth jarred out when you hit bridge joints or pot holes. The chassis never feels like its at its outer limits like the gas coaches did. I like pulling into truck stops (although they can sometimes be nasty) and not fighting idiots in cars zipping in front of you at the gas pumps. I had problems finding places to work on my gas chassis but never the DP. And I don't really pay anymore per hour although there is some higher maintenance involved. I had FORD truck centers tell me they don't work on motorhomes. Freightliner always welcomes me with open arms. Like the man said, don't drive one if you're not ready to buy.

RE: ....I was thinking about the Twin Towers tonight....

...while driving home. Still aggravetes me no end, we earned our position in this world through hard work and great sacrifice. There are some disgusting, worthless groups of people on this planet........... I agree, and I find it disgusting that the towers were not rebuilt in all their glory as soon as possible after the attack. I couldn't agree more. It should have been a national priority to rebuild immediately. Donald Trump should have been put in total charge. He has said he would do it. Build them back just as they were, the best construction, a floor higher. Its a disgrace what NYC and the PA is doing with the project.

RE: Loooking for a Fleetwood Expedition Expert

You can get the SE-GI windows fixed for about $100 each at a few places; one is in Hudson, FL.

RE: Wow! Hanomag Silver Streak..... 1 of 23 made!

Believe it or not, I have seen one of those somewhere before. Back in the 70's. Try getting a water pump for it at NAPA. Make a Renault look practical. My dad was a nut for oddball rigs. He had a motorhome made in Michigan by some ex-Avioners, called a Baroda (Baroda, MI) on an early 60's International bus chassis, just the front fenders and hood and all aluminum Avion type construction to the back. Kind of a class C-A. Great coach, Wish I had a picture. He had one of those Caddy hearse motorhomes, too back then.

RE: Loooking for a Fleetwood Expedition Expert

We have an 05 38N we bought new. Its the same color as that one. Its been a good coach. I have the CAT C-7 and don't think be happy with the smaller engine. There were some slide issues on some Fleetwoods. Operate the kitchen slide and watch for flexing at the top of the fridge and where the countertop meets the wall when the slide gets to its stopping point, either in or out. Mine required over 30 hours of labor to correct it but was handled under warranty. I have also had several of the poor SE-GI thermopane windows fog up, only one handled under warranty. Other than those items, everything else has been very minor. Broken drawer latches, bad ceiling fixtures, two bad starter caps on the AC's, etc. Our biggest complaint is Fleetwood's use of vinyl wrapped cabinent fronts. They don't stand up well and fray and nick easily. Amazingly, FW uses them on all their models up to the Eagles. You should check the tire age as well. If they are the originals, you will soon need new ones- $4K. I had a blowout at 4.5 years. You are also coming up on all the five year maintenance stuff; coolant change, trans fluid change, genset service; belt, coolant, etc. $$$. I have had adequate support from FW factory. Tech support has been fine, dealing with parts not so much. Sullivan RV is a FW dealer next to the factory in IN and is much easier to deal with. They run over to the factory and deal with them directly. The chassis has been flawless and all the coach electronics; inverter, EMS, etc, no problems. Its a lot of coach for the money, lots of bells and whistles, great layout. Wish we had the computer desk and two chairs instead of the dinette but oh well. All said, my next coach would be a Foretravel at whatever price point I could afford, but given the market, I'll probably keep the Expy for some more years.

RE: Where to dump black water?

I use a macerator at home and pump 80' away, uphill to my sewer cleanout for my septic tank. I made my own with a Jabsco macerator. Someone here on the forum made one with a 110VAC garbage disposal, which would be much cheaper than the 12 VDC macerator.

RE: Wholesale vs low retail

There isn't a set amount, esp in this market. When I was looking, it was 10%-15%. Another way to value a unit is to see what a lender will lend on it. As the selling price goes up from that point, there are less buyers who can buy it.

RE: DirectTV receivers....where to buy?

I have bought them on EBay and Craigslist without issue but you DO need to call the card # into Directv and verify the will activate the box BEFORE you buy it. You can do it while you are standing there. If you buy new at Bestbuy you will have to do a contract.

RE: hdtv tri pod

We have the Winegard tripod and so far it's held up nice. It's small and portable, a plus for us. http://pimages.winegarddirect.com/TR-2000_zoom.gif That tripod will not work with an HD Slimline dish. The Slimline as someone said, has a 2" mast and is much heavier and bigger. I have one like this and it works GREAT. Best thing I ever did. Easy to level and rock solid. CLICKY LINK I cut a piece of 1/4 thick aluminum about 4" wide and 12" long and bolted the antenna bracket to it with j-bolts. The Slimlone is more sensitive to not being level because of the tilt and having to pickup three sats.

RE: Reserve America booking window

Florida's window is eleven months for state parks. Every campground makes their own rules. Best bet is to call RA and ask about specific parks.

RE: Scarbourgh Maine Campground thats cheep?

End of June is high season in Maine and rates are at their peak. Wild Duck Campground is in Scarborough and they are around $40/nite. No pool and no kids are allowed. The farther you are from the ocean, the cheaper rates get. There are some west of I-95 that are cheaper.

RE: Florida bike week,

The Volusia County flea mkt is almost an HOUR drive to town and nothing around for miles, I know, I'll be there for the week... What are you talkin about? ou must be riding a bicycle. Its 15 minutes to New Smyrna Beach and Sopotnicks and only another 10 minutes to Daytona. Ten minutes to Deland (several events) and 30 minutes to downtown Orlando. Volusia Speedway, which has all kinds of bike races including some of the best flat track racing in the country and maybe 20 minutes to Daytona International Speedway. 30 minutes to US1 in Bunnell to the Iron Horse and Destination Daytona. The worst thing about staying at the fairgrounds is if it rains much you need waders. Not talking about Main Street, but US1 which is really Ormand. I think more is going on up there, Destination Daytona, iron horse, etc... Its a 20 minute ride to US1 from the Deland Fairgrounds. You must be driving a Whizzer!:)
