RE: Campground around Custer S.D. area

We will be traveling through S. Dakota on our way west looking for suggestions on a campground central to the sites will only be staying for a couple of days would like passport america if possible but not necessary.Try this PA CG,it's right on the Northern edge of Custer SP,we stayed 9 days & loved it, it is not a resort, but the price is far less than many others in the area, & face it, how long are you in camp anyways, mostly out site seeing, be sure to pay attention to Directions from their site, DO NOT USE MAPQUEST, or any of the others, as they will send you south on 16 from Keystone, it is NOT do able with an RV, Low, very narrow tunnels. http://images112.fotki.com/v1531/photos/7/1474187/7279495/Picture302-vi.jpg height=450 width=600Sorry, I posted the tunnel pic but not the CG link; http://www.spokanecreekresort.com/:S

RE: Resorts

I totally agree with Busskipper. Why judge by a name? Saying that all resorts are overpriced and only for motorcoachs is like saying all campgrounds are dirty and only for tents (preposterous, right?). A resort can be many different things, and judging any place by its name alone can cause you to overlook places you might really love. As I see it the term "resort" has two different meanings. 1. A very high end, condo type park with restrictions on rv type, rv age, guest age, and a sales team pushing you to "buy in". 2. A park with new modern facilities and many options for recreation, such as paved sites, patios, irrigated lawns, flowers, full hook-ups, pools, clubhouses, sports courts, etc. Rather than judging a park by its name, isn't it wiser to judge a park by its amenities, guest service, and facilities?Looking at these definitions, I would Never stay at a #1, and other than the FHU's, there isn't anything I see in #2 that I need.

RE: Reserve america:

Hey, Far be it from me to question pricing of camping fees-Ha! But one night at Topsail, Florida during the week...$46. seems high- is it? Prices seem all over the place....if this was a private R.V. park I expect to pay in that range...but a State Park. Now I've not been there before so educate me, whats so special about Topsail? Other options in the area? Most look like they are all reserved. I know some Fl. parks are beautiful. Thx O.Y. Fifth wheel rig 32' in length. It is, if you think it is. Like me, I think it is, so I don't need to be there,(or anywhere else that charges that much).

RE: Where are we?

bukhrn: Yes, I know one! :) When I see all these great places I feel like I haven't been anywhere...but we were in Ashtabula County, Ohio, at the Smolen-Gulf Bridge just last October. Took the self guided tour of most all of the covered bridges in the county. All the tourist stuff near Geneva-on-the-Lake (where we stayed) was pretty much closed up. We even kind of had to look around for a place to go to dinner for our 32nd anniversary. Cold, rainy and rotten but we had a good time anyway. SageGood job Sage, that one didn't last long, The Smolen-Gulf Bridge is actually the longet covered bridge in the country & 4th longest in the world.

RE: 'What are the pros and cons to these members-only CGs?

Off the top it would seem to limit the camping opportunities if one felt obligated to only stay at the members clubs. That would be the down side for me with Thousand Trails, Cost, & the fact that you are restricted to, approximately only 89 CG's, nationwide.

RE: Where are we?

How about this Cool old Tree? http://images52.fotki.com/v643/photos/7/1474187/8029570/Picture033-vi.jpg height=450 width=600 I think I saw that tree along the Pikes Peak Cog Railroad. JimNOPE I'll take a long shot as it could be so many places. How about Mesa Verde? Blue Ridge Parkway, Don't remember the mile marker though.Very close tomb48, but no cigar yet. Then I'm gong to go with Skyline Drive. The rock wall looks right and the mile marker. Can't say I recognize that exact tree...You got it, Skyline Drive, in Shenandoah NP.

How about this one, http://images112.fotki.com/v173/photos/7/1474187/7273511/documents255-vi.jpg?1268438050 height=450 width=600 WAG at somewhere in Texas Gulf coast. I admit that I had to cheat on this one. This fish was the winner in a contest held in Richmond, VA to decorate fish statues throughout the city. It's similar to the contests in other city to decorate cows, pigs, bison, and even Charlie Brown statues.Well, no problem with a little cheat, now & then, but now that you posted the link, & assuming that everyone here can read, it is indeed outside the entrance to The Museum Of The Confederacy, in Richmond.

RE: Yellowstone Wildlife Spotting Scope Questions

I'm quite certain that there is an occasional need for a spotting scope, but in Yellowstone, we never needed one, most shots were taken from the car, & all these shots were taken by a cheap point & shoot Canon A560. http://images54.fotki.com/v564/photos/7/1474187/7278806/Picture1368-vi.jpg height=450 width=600 http://images9.fotki.com/v450/photos/7/1474187/7278806/Picture1382-vi.jpg?1268510644 height=450 width=600 http://images49.fotki.com/v1500/photos/7/1474187/7278806/Picture986-vi.jpg height=450 width=600
