RE: Window awning pull strap

very easy to replace. If your awning does not have a widened portion on the slot to insert the new strap just drill a 5/16" hole at one end of the groove so you can slip the broken part out and the new one in. I carry 2 extra window awning straps and 1 extra main awning strap at all times and have given a couple away to neighbors at CG's when theirs broke.

RE: Heavy toad towing

Fwiw, we've put over 20,000 miles on a Blackhawk All Terrain bar towing our Suburban with no issues at all. Due to the Suburban being a 3/4 ton with HD frame the cross bar is not needed so once we unhitch there is no excess parts to deal with.

RE: Removing (tricks), spin oil filter ??

On my former 97 truck and my wife's 2000 Burb I use a band type wrench with a swivel handle made by Lisle. Fits very well and easy to get on/off the filter for both removal and installing. As previously mentioned I also poke a hole in the bottom of the filter to let it drain while the oil pan is draining. This nearly eliminates the oil mess that gets on the skid plate right below the filter.

RE: Bryce Canyon and Zion

We went a few years ago in December and being in both Zion and Bryce while it snowed was great. There was almost no one else in the parks so we had no issues on any trails and could spend as much or as little time as we wanted at the various peaks, points, and attractions. We chose to stay at Zion River Resort so we could have full hook ups and not have too worry about freezing our a... rears off. Very nice campground with friendly and helpful staff. They even had a propane truck available to fill tanks so we didn't have to move to fill our tank.

RE: Need Your Help Replacement Light Door Handle

I'm guessing the handle is similar to the one Fleetwood used on my Eagle, I took the bulb to NAPA and found a heavy duty replacement for under $10.00. Much quicker and cheaper than buying one on the web. When you re-assemble, use some di-electric grease on the bulb base. If your removed the top mount for the handle use urethane or silicone to seal it so water doesn't get behind the handle and into your coach.

RE: Guidance on used RV to tow 10,000 race car trailer

You can probably find a no slide DP in the $45-60K range if you look hard. If you go up to $65-75K you will have a lot of coach options to look at. The Cummins or Cat motors over 8 liters should quite easily provide enough torque to pull 10K pounds.
Fwiw, We have a Cummins ISC 350hp in our Eagle and tow 6400lbs. Barely know the extra weight is there except on really long ascents.

RE: Insulating the front windshield for winter living

Phil,
Chicago in the winter.... yuck, head to Indio with Terry and the gang where it'll be a chilly 65 most days. Look at foam core board insulation at Home Depot or Lowe's. It comes in 3x5 and 4x8 sheet that you can cut to fit your windshield. We use it on a commercial product at work and if it's tight to the surface you will not get condensation between it and the surface it's against.

RE: Towing Hummer H2

Should be no problem at all. The front clip on the H2 is the same as the 2500 Suburban we tow. We've towed for over 20K miles quite happily.
Not sure why you would need to disconnect the battery as your steering column shouldn't lock and thus not need a key in the ignition while being towed. Check your owners manual under "Being Towed" as GM covers the steps really well.

RE: Dinghy Towing 2008 Silverado 4WD

The locking steering columns went away in 2003 or 2004. Our 2000 has a locking column so I have to leave the key in at ON and remove the IGN0 fuse to turn off the dash lights and such.
When staying overnight with the Burb in tow I remove the key and hang it on the parking brake release in the coach so I don't forget to put it back in.

RE: front leveling valve

Your bags should hold air for 3-4 days. Try airing your system up/.down a couple times to make sure the valve isn't stuck first.
The best thing to do after that is verify the leak with a spray bottle of soapy water. 2-3 drops of dish washing soap mixed with 2 cups of water, spray on the fittings, and look for bubbles. Spray all the fittings, not just the leveler as the dump valves have been known to stick and cause leaks.

RE: Signature Resorts Indio vs. Outdoor Resorts Indio

While I agree that both are very nice, we like the older Outdoor Resorts better. It's really all personal preference when you try to compare two high end resort parks like this. Your coach will "fit in" at either but the Signature park has more Prevost in my opinion.
There is a great detailing service that works both parks that will do a full wash, wax, and polish the wheels for $250.00. Takes them about 2 hours with a crew of 8 people.

RE: Torque Wrench

Don't buy Craftsman, used to be good but they no longer warranty them for life so when the pawl spring in the head breaks you are on your own. Yep, voice of experience. I have 3 and will be moving to Snap-On as replacements.

RE: Towing Chevy 2500HD?

Towing your 2500 HD should not be a problem. The owners manual has a section in it on being towed, just follow what it says. You'll need a tow bar rated for at least 6500lbs, 8000-10000 would be better and a toad brake setup.
We have towed our 2500 Suburban over 20,000 miles and it's been great. Use a Roadmaster Blackhawk All-Terrain tow bar with hidden XL brackets and their Brakemaster system. Would buy the same setup again in a heartbeat as it's easy to use and easy to setup.

RE: Motorhome Bra

Contact Adco. They make bras for many models/brands and even tough I don't see Tiffin listed they also do custom work. I've had their bras over the years and the fit is tight and quality is very good.

RE: DP engine sound not right!

Chances are your belt got wet and gritty and may have varnished a bit. You can try putting a little bar soap (or belt dressing) on the belt - when NOT spinning to see if it helps. If it does you may want to have the belt replaced. If this doesn't help it could still be the belt or it could be the tension idler.

RE: 2003 Tahoe

Your 2003 may not need a fuse pulled. Depends on if you have a locking steering column or not. With a locking steering column you need to leave the key in at the "on" position to tow and the fuse is listed as IGN0, it's a 20 or 30amp and it shuts off the dash display. If you have a non-locking column you don't leave a key in and should have no need to pull the fuse.

RE: tri-mark basement cabinet locks

It's pretty common on low yield cast aluminum parts like the locks. About all you can do is put some di-electric grease on them or spray with silicone to create a moisture and dissimilar metals barrier.

RE: Spartan w/Cummins ISC - coolant leak warning

sorry, been off line since I posted this on 23rd.
While Deen is technically correct, when I talked to Spartan this cooling tank arrangement is supplied by Spartan as part of the chassis and engine cooling system and thus common unless the coach builder modifies.

Spartan w/Cummins ISC - coolant leak warning

Had a coolant leak yesterday and would like to give all of you with Spartan chassis and Cummins ISC's a heads up to check this coolant line before it breaks. May affect other chassis with ISC's too.
There is a small 1/2" dia braided line ~4 feet long that runs across the top of the engine just above the valve cover. It connects on one end from the stand pipe coming out of the block going to the radiator, the other end is connected to the back of the coolant recovery tank.
On my coach this line failed at the fitting to the coolant tank allowing coolant to pour down onto the exhaust and make a huge mess. I found the hose itself had become hard and brittle yet similar braided lines near it where still pliable. Maybe heat and pressure related.
I was luckily able to get a replacement line made up at a local hydraulic supply and I was back on the road for $75.50 and 20 minutes of my time. If you have a Spartan chassis and a ISC I'd suggest checking this line before it strands you.
