RE: Dewinterized today, Camping soon

Crab80, I got down to Assateague about 3pm. I come down here in March every year, this is the best weather I can remember, heck 2 years ago it snowed!
Hope everyone has a great weekend and great camping trip if they are heading out.

RE: Dewinterized today, Camping soon

In reference to my previous post, I now decided to go ahead and head to Assateague tomorrow (Friday) and come back on Monday. I dewinterized the trailer last night, washed it, got the gas systems up and running etc. etc. The weather is just too nice to stay home. The girls are heading to New York on Sat. so this will be a solo trip. LOTS OF SLEEPING!

RE: Dewinterized today, Camping soon

I was hoping to head solo to Assateague this Thurs - Sunday, but it turns out my daughter is in a play Thurs eve. so this rules that trip out (I don't want to miss seeing her). To leave Friday and come back Sunday isn't worth the almost 400 mile RT. But two weeks from tomorrow we will be heading down there for spring break, so that is not too far off. I will keep it winterized until right before we go as the weather has been so crazy this year!

RE: Verizon to get Iphone???

I used to think this would happen this year. But now I think Apple is going to stick with AT&T. I am sure that AT&T is giving Apple a good deal as without the iphone I think their current decent growth trend would slow. If Apple was going to go with Verizon, I think the earliest would be 2011 when VZ rolls out it's LTE 4G network.
That said, I have stuck with Verizon for their better coverage in my world. I purchased a Motorola Droid last Nov. and haven't looked back. My wife also made me get her one recently, she loves it. Please understand too that I am a mac user (MB and MBP and likely an ipad on 4/3/10) and always wanted an iphone, but now I am very happy with Android and don't miss the iphone/Apple interface at all (well maybe itunes a bit, but I still use my 160gb ipod classic anyway). However, I use Doubletwist to sync my music with itunes and it works fine. I also think the Droid is superior some ways such as: it can multitask (although the 4G iphone coming out this summer will likely do that too)and the screen is hands down one of the best ones in the business. I also like having the keyboard, it makes navigating web pages a bit easier. Now don't get me wrong, I'm not knocking the iphone, it's great, I think the user interface is a bit smoother (as typical with Apple products in my book), but it also has 3 years of refinement on the Droid. I think Android is further ahead out of the gate than the iphone OS was out of the gate (plus a major OS upgrade, 2.1 is due by the end of the month). That said, the Moto Droid stands on it's own as a great-no compromise alternative to the iphone. So if you don't want to sign up with AT&T, for whatever reason, don't wait to get a smart/superphone at Verizon, dive in and get a Droid, you won't be sorry. BTW HTC (makers of the Android Eris) is expected to release a new more powerful Android phone on Verizon next month. Additionaly, although it is not an Android phone, the Palm Pre Plus is decent and has a very nice user interface. However it's app store is not as large as Android's and it does not have the free Google maps/navigation that the Moto Droid does.

RE: Duraburb

Looks like a well thought out conversion, but why not just buy a used excursion? It would likely be a lot cheaper and true is a factory vehicle. Not knocking what these guys have done, but it seems like they would be pricey with all of the work that was put into them.

RE: When to De-Winterize?

I'll dewinterize it and go camping this month and rewinterize it when I get home if need be, it only takes a few minutes. As to dewinterizing, I just pump water through it to clean out the antifreeze (it's non toxic). Then, in late April or May, once hard freeze time is over I'll do the once a year sanitization of the lines.

RE: Good Bye old friend

I would love to visit Trap Pond one of these days. The trouble is by the time I drag my trailer down from Frederick I want to be at the beach! I have heard it's a nice park, perhaps I'll to a "combo" trip one of these days. I'm hoping to break loose and head to assateague the 18th or 19th if the weather stays half decent.
Enjoy your new rig. I know I will miss mine when we get a new one (maybe next year if I keep my job :E).

RE: Jayco Kiwi 17c Thermostat and some help

As usual Chuck is on target. I have the Wal-Mart Hunter and it works great. MUCH MUCH MUCH better than that cheap piece of you know what that Jayco installed at the factory. I also agree with the T125s and cut off switch, well worth the money. Here is a photo of my setup. The big white box houses the to Trojan batteries. The small grey box houses the shunt for the Trimetric. You can also see my marine style cut off switch.
Here is a photo of the entire rig if you are interested.
BTW it is dangerous to pull a trailer without an operational battery. The brake disconnect switch will not work without electricity (powered by the on board trailer battery).

RE: Dicor and roof sealing

I use Eternabond and then Dicor the edges of the same. Double protection after a bad roof leak. I don't know why in the world they don't use Eternabond from the factory.

RE: Source for alloy wheels for Jayco Eagle

I got rid of those ugly/rusting white spokes on mine and purchased my Hi Spec brand modular style wheels from Trailer Enterprises . Nice folks, good prices and fast service. Give them a call for prices. Hi Spec are a major OEM supplier to various RV companies. Here is a photo album where you can see what they look like on my trailer. After I put them, they looked so good, I felt like I was pulling a new trailer.

RE: Civil War battlefield Sites

There is a Jellystoneclose to Antietam. I have never stayed there, but it is just a few miles from the Battlefield. Of course, while you were in the area you could also visit Harper's Ferry and Monocacy Battlefield (near Frederick). In Frederick they also have the National Museum of Civil War Medicine.

RE: RV Loan with 0 Down - Neg Equity

Rolling negative equity into a loan is a bad idea, it starts a cycle where you will stay "under water" on your loans. That is a bad situation to be in (as you can currently see). Why not stick with what you have, pay it down so you are not under water and then MAYBE think about purchasing something else. Or better yet, just keep what you have pay it down/off and sleep better at night.

RE: WDH for HTT

I think you will find that most folks on here prefer the Reese "dual cam" setup or the Equalizer Brand of WDH (that's the one I use).
I am not familiar with this hitch (I think it is a newer model). It kind of seems similar to the Equalizer set up using spring bars and I would think it would work for you.
One important thing to consider is not only the tongue weight, but also the overall cargo weight capacity (which includes the tongue weight) of your vehicle (including people, items carried on the roof, cargo in the back of the Yukon etc.).

RE: F-150 or Tundra?

Well, if I was buying a 1/2 ton truck my first choice would be the Tundra (having owned on previously). But, if I was going to tow the trailers you are looking at I would forget about 1/2 ton trucks and buy a 3/4 ton. Perhaps a used diesel even. As mentioned earlier, a 3/4 ton truck will take the guessing out of this game. My wife wife who used to drive an Audi A6 as a daily driver now drives our Dmax, and while she would much rather have the Audi :B, she doesn't mind driving the Chevy. A diesel would make light work of your towing too. You won't believe how much more relaxing it is towing with a diesel. But a gasser would also be fine and cost less to purchase and own (yes own). My choices in 3/4 diesel or gas in order preference: Chevy, Dodge, Ford (except gas where it would be a toss up for 2nd with the Dodge). Again though, if I was going with a 1/2 ton, it would be the Toyota for me.

RE: window tint suggestions

If you go the DIY route, one of the keys is to make sure the windows are very clean, hence the razor blade. Soap up the window then go over it with the razor blade making sure all of the little bits of dirt, dust and grease are gone. Cleanliness is one of keys to a good tint job. Then use lots of soapy water when installing the tint, make sure you get it where you want it before you start to squeege the soap out. If you don't want to DIY then a good pro shop will put it on and guaranty the work.

RE: Camping World in Winchester, VA

They have repaired my heater, which the dealer never fixed properly under warranty and didn't work for several years (now it has worked great for the past couple of years since it was fixed). They took it out of the trailer and bench tested it properly until they found the problem and fixed it. They also did a good job on my fridge installing a new burner. Furthermore, I have had them perform other normal maintenance items too.
Note: while I have a TT, they also seem setup to to diesel work etc. I think they sell Banks equipment etc. There are always a number of Class A's there for service. They have a nice RV store there too. I find they usually can get you in there for service more quickly than a lot of dealers. That is how I first started going there, one of the local large RV dealers told me they sent S&S their overflow work when they were busy. Since I was in hurry for a repair, I tried them out, they got me in within a week and finished the job up right away.
If you don't mind the drive, then they just might be worth a whirl.

RE: Engine Oil Drain Valves

+1 on the Fumoto, makes oil changes easier and less messy on my Dmax as it kicks the oil drain angle out just enough to clear the skid pan. Before I would get oil on my skid pan if I didn't drop it (more fine GM engineering.....).
