RE: Honda?

I was considering a 2009 Honda Fit, but decided to get a year end 2008 CRV EL-L instead. While the Fit would have worked, the tow bar setups have been a bit slow coming, but the bigger issue for me is that we keep our MH off site and often throw all of our stuff in the toad (used to have a truck and 5er to do this with) and load up the MH at the storage lot and take off. Reverse when we return. With a smaller toad, I don't think we'd be able to get enough stuff in the toad to do this. The CRV is a great car in addition to being a great toad. I got the EX Leather which has XM radio, heated leather seats, and dual automatic climat control. All nice stuff to have. Milage has been around 25 MPG, mostly light city driving. The amazing fact is that the 2009 Honda Fit has as much storage room as some small suv's, 59 cf with the rear seats down. The cc of 850 lbs is the same as the CRV. Mileage has been around 38 mpg, 50/50 mix city/hwy. Notified by Roadmaster that they finally shipped the bracket yesterday. :) I may get to San Diego by Christmas yet!

RE: SMI Toad Brake Controller

I just installed on in my 2008 CRV this weekend. See pics and comments at http://www.flickr.com/photos/klenger/sets/72157607575669503/. Too soon to tell how it works, but it seems OK and I really like the permanently installation.

RE: '07 Honda CR-V

I have a 2008 CRV. I use the Roadmaster Sterling tow bar and the Roadmaster XL base plate for the Honda. It works great. I have had this system on three CRV's I have owned.

RE: '07 Honda CR-V

We are towing a 2008 CRV, no nav. I had a Roadmaster Stowmaster set up, it will not work on the CRV. Looked very carefully at all available systems, and went with a Blue Ox plate and steel towbar. When you get there, all the junk comes off the toad, looks normal. The other systems left lots of stuff on the front of the CRV. Just personnal choise. Also used my old Brake Buddy, it works!! I am sure you will hear all the systems work, and they do, but, if you don't want to break a knee walking around a toad in the dark, look at the Blue Ox setup. RE: 2008 crv Radio Fuse

We have a 2008 CRV, no Nav system, with a Blue Ox tow bar and a Brake Buddy ( older style ). We have towed it about 4000 miles, so far, never pulled fuse, never ran battery down , and have gone up to 400-450 miles a day. If the batt runs down, you left something on. You must shut off everything, Radio, AC, etc. The Muffin Man , lost in New Mexico, heading for Florida.

RE: 2008 crv Radio Fuse

I have heard some people modify a fuse by wiring from an open fuse to another fuse and mount a toggle swich under the dash. This must be for your NAV? I don't pull any fuses on my 07. I have a 2008 CRV without NAV and believe me when I tell you that the radio acces. fuse needs to be pulled if traveling more than 300 miles in one stretch or day. When I travel with the brake buddy plugged into the cigerette lighter and the radio lcd acces. fuse plugged in, my battery WILL run down. Must be the Brake Buddy. I tow our 07 CRV hundreds of miles (400-500) a day and no dead battery. I have a Ready Brute tow bar with built in surge brakes.

2008 crv Radio Fuse

I just retured from a 3 month trip to the east coast from New Mexico. The towing instructions on my CRV call for the radio accessory fuse to be pulled if towing long distances. This fuse is almost impossible to pull without a major operation that includes stranding on your head under the dash. Is there a product on the market that will make it possible to either extend the fuse or make it possible to switch it off and on without the major operation?

2005 CRV might be History

Out toad(05 CRV with M&G and FalconII baseplate) will probably be totaled due to an accident. Looking at a 2008 CRV as a replacement, have anyone had problems with towing a 08 CRV? Will a FalconII baseplate fit a 08 CRV?

RE: Towing a CR-V with Class C

We have a 2008 CRV 2WD and I can't find anything in the manual, on the Honda site or here on this site about two wheel drive (front wheel drive) towing behind a class c on a car dolly. Everything mentions the 4 WD with four on the ground which we don't want to do. I have emailed Honda but they take forever to answer. Does anyone have a front wheel drive CRV and do you tow it on a car dolly? Thanks for your response.

RE: $3,200 quote to tow!!! Are you kidding

Just set up a 2008 CRV to flaat tow. The BlueOx base plate and wiring for the lights cost $650, at the local hitch place. The tow bar, Aventa LX, was $530, including cover and cable/chains. The wiring cable is $35. Already had a Brake Buddy, bought new from EBay for $600. Thats $1935, still to darn much money but the system works perfectly and has given no trouble. Shop around and be picky, you can go cheaper. I went with BlueOx because it is a neater system, than Roadmasster. Sold all the Roadmaster stuff, and started over.Bothsystems work great, but BO looks better on the CRV than the overly bulky RM stuff on the CRV. And since it is my wifes car, it has got to look good. Remember, Its more important to look good, than to feel good!!! The Muffin Man.

Running Wire Thru Firewall 2008 crv

The Brake Buddy we will use in our 2008 Honda CRV requires a small cable that attaches between BB and the Break-Away switch. It is necessary to run the cable thru the fire wall to make this connection. We would prefer not drilling a hole. Anyone found a way to squeeze a small cable thru the fire wall without drilling? Sure appreciate any tips or help on this one, they sure make the '08 tighter than our previous '04 CRV. Thanks, Jim

RE: Which model year CRV makes the best tow vehicle?

Hello. I am thinking of buying a 2008 CRV to tow behind my class C. Not my first choice as I already own a Hyundai Santa Fe but it's a 4x2. My question on the CRV is how difficult and/or expensive is it to "recirculate transmission fluid every 8 towing hours" as the Motorhome's dinghy towing guide states? Does it involve taking it to the dealer? Thanks in advance.

RE: CR-V

FWD and four WD are the same, follow the owners manual exactly, and life is good. We just set up a front wheel drive 2008 CRV and it tows great. Used Blue OX tow bar and plate, because it is a cleaner front end with less cutting. Blue Ox recommends separate lights, do not cut into existing harness, so thats what I did . No problems. 2008 crv

I am thinking about buying a 2008 Honda CRV and setting it up as a toad. For those of you that have the 2007 or 2008 CRV how much "trimming" was required on the area where the attachment points protrude through the black plastic? Believe this is called the facia area. Do the attachment points come out on the sides of the lower part of the radiator or below it? I am planning on using a Blue Ox baseplate unless there is another one that would require less or no "trimming". Would really like to leave that area untrimmed if possible to help with resale value at some point. Thanks in advance for your input.

Protect-a-Tow vs 2008 crv

Just received my Protect-a-Tow and am now realizing that the whole front of the Honda is plastic. Anyone have this combination and have a solution for where to install the eye-bolts? There is a small shouldered fastener located 27 inches off centerline that holds a couple pieces of plastic together and is threaded into a nut plate, but it all seems too flimsy. I don't know how much pressure is exerted on the eye bolts from turbulence and cornering. Any ideas? Mike

RE: Honda CR-V

We have had a 2004, 2006 and now a new 2008 CRV. They are great towing vehicles and trade-in value is excellent. To my surprise, the dealer did not deduct $ for having tow brackets installed on the 04 or 06 when I traded in. The 2008 CRV with the new body style is quieter since Honda added sound insulation. The stock Bridgestone tires are a little stiff so I had Michelin Cross Terrain tires installed. The Michelins ride smooth and are very quiet. We like the lift tailgate that is much easier to operate than the older swing style. The 2008 sits a little higher, probably due to the 17 inch tires vs. 16 inch on the previous model. So far,my 08 CRV is getting 22 MPG, about 3 less than the previous CRVs. Not sure why. Towing setup is very easy and you can tow up to 65 mph for 8 hours before re-setting the engine/transmission. After towing 10,000 miles plus driving 40,000 miles the original equipment tires on the 04 and 06 CRV had no abnormal tire wear and probably another 5,000 miles remaining on the tires when traded in. On each CRV, I have had a clear bra installed on the front hood, fenders and mirror backs. This has helped prevent rock chips when towing. I also use the brake buddy and it is easy to install on the CRV. Whether you get a used CRV or a new one, they make a great tow vehicle.

2008 crv towing lights install

I'm in the process of buying a new CRV as a toad. I am going to attempt to install the base plate (Roadmaster) the Unified Brake system, and tail lamps myself. Has anyone installed the base plate? If so was it difficult or just time consuming? I understand the facia must be trimmed for the brackets. Also, is there room for installing the tail/stop light bulb in the CRV tail light housing? I'm not a fan of diodes. Thanks in advance for the help.
