I really don't care that diesel is higher than gas. Of course I would rather see diesel prices go back down to where they should be but I bought my diesel because it is so much better at hauling and towing.
By the way though, we just got back a couple weeks ago from towing our 5ver to Myrtle Beach and diesel was cheaper than gas at a couple of stations in South Carolina!

The last time I checked, I didn't buy my truck new.
many diesel owners bought used diesel powered trucks. My diesel option was 3400 dollars when new and it paid for itself the first 45000 miles. With over 115k its still makes cents over a comparable size gasser. The biggest plus is resale. Older diesels are in high demand right now in my area. I live in farm and ranch country and many used diesel trucks are going for more than BB prices.
If we are required to justify buying a diesel to pull a RV guess we could use the same logic to justify buying the RV or buying a ATV or a Boat or own a ........... .
It doesn't take a brain surgeon to figure why serious long haul commercial folks still prefere the diesel powerd trucks over a BB gas guzzler. Even a RVer can enjoy some of those advantages.
Some diesels still makes cents

My 2000 7.3 and 2003 6.0 PSD Excursions were great when diesel was cheaper than gas and the diesel option was about half the price of 2008 diesels. But the Excursion was too small and we sold it a year ago before the 6.0 PSD warranty ran out and that turned out to be a smart move.

Bluenote, you are missing the point. The broccoli is clearly the better choice over the tomatos. At 2/3 the price I am making sauce for my pasta with it right now.

8.1 lets keep on topic, this is yet another thread you are attempting to ruin. I don't understand your big concern about gas prices anyway as you have posted you ride your bicycle to work, and take a dozen people on vacation with you to pay for the gas.
2003 Jayco 308fbs eagle 33' tt, towed by a 2003 Ram 3500 slt, quad cab dually, cummins diesel ho, trailer towing package, with 6 speed manual. Hauls better 1/2, 3 kids, myself, and a 2003 ez go clays car.. I have added so far, neon lights, clearance lights, back up lights, black light, lift kit, mud tires, and everything necessary to make the golf cart street legal. It's now ready to spend the winter in the garage for more mods. More neon, strobe lights, alarm, a pa system, maintance, and whatever else that comes along. This golf cart does wheelies and travels thru 7 inches of mud when need be. Two honda eu2000i gens twinned to supply the electrical power. Latest addition an 04 Honda Goldwing.
