Richard - So kind of you to check on the elderly mans pets - hopefully he will get well and come home to be loved by them again.

BTW, things aren't good here in California - my sister works for a property rental company and she went to a "vacant" rental house and found a young woman with a baby and 2 dogs squatting there - very sad. I guess they are just going to inform the owner of the house and let him deal with it - but it is an insight to what is going on with the housing crisis and huge price increases for food, gas etc...

That is so sad to hear. People are hurting as well as the animals. The other side of the story is the Oil companies keep on making huge profits while the economy spirals downward. Old Fella knew what it was like to have all of his hopes and dreams dashed. But one thing he did was he just kept the faith that someday his turn would come and it did. We may suffer for a time, but if we will just hang on things will turn around for those who try.

Sounds as if the young woman is trying the best she knows how. With small children and two pets it isn’t going to be easy if she doesn’t have a job.

Thanks, Richard. The best we can do for her is pray for her and all the people/animals/children suffering.

Sure wish my copy of Highways magazine would hurry up and get here. A friend already called and said there was a nice article in it on Old Fella. I can't read it yet.

Gentle Spirit, Sure like your choice of horse breed. We still have one of them along with an Appy that was my daughters first horse. Until I got hurt, I had Ebony's Brimstone Grandson of Ebony's Masterpiece.

I went to the old man's home today and it was a sad affair. He hasn't been home in a few days as he is still in the hospital and it doesn't look as if he is going home anytime soon, if at all? The hospital is looking for a long term care facility for him so if that is the case he may never go home. He has two of the sweetest old dogs that greeted me as I drove up to the house, just wagging their tails, if they only knew what was ahead of them they wouldn’t be so happy as it looks as if they are about to lose their home.

The cats were everywhere! I couldn’t count them as they were moving from place to place. The one thing I did notice was they had access to the house by way of a cat door and they have taken over the house.

This is going to take a lot of time to work things out so I am leaving this up to some of the volunteers while Sue and I go to the beach, sounds like I am running out on them doesn’t it? Dan posted that one of his friends has already received his September issue of Highways Magazine with the article about Old Fella, maybe mine will come while we are gone and I can read it when we get back. Okay, I am going to sit back and relax for a while then go to bed. Have a great evening and enjoy your family.

No, you are not running out - you are letting others take their responsibilities and help out this sad situation. I hope something can be done for these critters.

Barb.

Enjoy the beach....or if not the beach, then the vacation. I have learned in the field of education that I will end up dying an early death if I don't learn that there are perfectly good people out there just waiting to step up the the plate and fill in when necessary. Sometimes they have to be prodded, but they are there. Someone will take care of the situation for you. It may not be how you would have handled it, but it was the way that God intended.....
Get some rest...

We are about to leave for Hunting Island in just a few minutes. It looks as if Tropical storm Kay will have very little to do with our plans for a nice three days at the beach.

Suzie and Charlie are ready to go.They are sitting by the door just waiting for me to say "Let's go." It hasn't taken Charlie long to learn what's goin on especially when Sue and I are loading the camper. Okay, got to go, Sue and I will take lots of pictures and post them as soon as we get back.

The article on Old Fella was a nice tribute to him and Richard.(page 16)

Did you all notice that the Evergreen Campgrounds, site of the 2009 Old Fella Rally is rated in the top 3 in the country in the 2008 Trailer Life Directory with a perfect 30 out of 30 score. The others were in Texas and and in Canada. (page 45)

Richard and Sue, Do hope you are having the time of your life with the "kids". Enjoy and stay safe.

Hey Dandy Dan! My horses are related to Ebony Masterpiece too! Although one is solid black and the other is brown and white (pinto coloring) - I looked at their papers and they both have Ebony Masterpiece as their Great-Great-Grandfather! What a small world! Although I wonder how many walkers are related to the Great Ebony Masterpiece...here's an interesting website I found:

http://www.walkerswest.com/Champs/EbonyMasterpiece.htm

We don't have a motorhome or trailer yet - but we're going to go look at one (a trailer) on Thursday that sounds good - so where's the next Old Fella Rally? We'll have to go.....
