Richard, I really enjoy your memory walks, and the thought of the collars on the tree. When we put our first dog to sleep, I hurt so bad I threw everything away. I saved the last ones collar and am glad I did.
We suffered some effects of IKE here in OH. I have never seen such sustained winds and they were only for about 5-6 hours at only about 70 mph gusts. Many downed trees and limbs. Just makes me have a better appreciation for those that really lived through IKE. We have had no school now for 3 days because they have been unable to get the power on to the schools. We were fortunate and only lost power for about 8 hours. I have spent the last couple of days moving food from freezers and fridges to coolers and other homes with power. God bless those in IKE's way. It must be a mess.

I am glad you are okay and managing to get through this bump in the road. When we have power outages I crank up the generator and hook it up to the camper. We can get by for many hours that way and stay comfortable. The last time we lost power was a long time ago one winter when everything froze and a lot of tree limbs were down pulling power lines with them. It is reasuring to know we have that kind of back up. I hope everything gets back to normal soon, but just enjoy the different adventure while it lasts.

I am so pleased with Charlie's progress. He is walking now without a limp and playing with Suzie and Peaches without suffering afterwards. Suzie is such an imp! She will let Charlie and Peaches come into the yard and act as if she doesn't know they are there, then she will charge into them knocking they legs out from under them and start the rough house playing. Poor Peaches now walks out on the steps to see where Suzie is and will try to protect herself. Suzie will sometimes hide behind the bushes at the bottom of the steps and ambush Peaches when she walks by.

Charlie when he gest enough he will sit on Suzie and hold her down until she stops wiggling. Peaches will not go near the water bucket when Suzie is any where around and when she does she will drink water with her back to the house so Suzie can't sneak up on her.

We have three dogs with three different personalities, yet they get along great. Suzie wants to go with me when I leave in the truck but she gets sick if she has anything on her stomach. Peaches and Charlie do just find and can go on a moments notice. I am going to start taking Charlie and Peaches with me more often and take Suzie along on occassion until she finally gets over her car sickness completely.

On our last camping trip we forgot to give Suzie her pill and she did fine on the two hour trip back home, so I tried her the other day just around town and she got sick. So with her, no food, no water on any car trips and she will do fine. It is very cool outside tonight, great night for a campfire, let's go camping....

I have some troubling news this morning about the Old Fella Burke County Animal Rescue. Like everyone else they are hurting and have animals they will not be able to care for, such as shots and medical expenses. Spay and neuter have stopped until further notice.

These are surely troubling times as many feel the pinch of an unstable economy. Suzie says she would like to run for President of the United States as she would make sure every home in America has Milk Bone and other treats. She also says there will be a party everyday and everyone would be invited to the big house {White House} in Washington and that eventually it would be moved to a better climate such as the Deep South {No Snow or Ice in the winter} so everyone would have a wonderful time all year round. Everyone could camp out all year long in the North Georgia mountains or hang out at the sea shore and eat all the sea food they want. Chittlins would be served twice a week with vegetables right out of the garden. Nobody would have to work very hard as it would be a community effort and everybody would chip in and do their part.

Of course Suzie will be in charge of all the entertainment so there would never be a dull moment. Charlie will be the man in charge of protocol so everything will be neat and in order. Peaches will be the maid in waiting and meet all of the nice young men while Izzie will be in charge of the sleeping accommodations, something he knows a lot about.

Okay that’s it for the morning and don’t forget, a vote for Suzie is a vote for fun.

Suzie has my vote (if she promises not to ambush me... and you know what many political promises are worth).

Sorry to hear about the problems the rescue organization is having.

Richard....I was with ya all the way...until......Charlie is going to keep things neat and in order???? With Suzie around???? Hmmm....not sure how that is going to work. I have a feeling that with Suzie as president, there would be a lot of mischievous head dunking in water bowls.

I am so sorry to hear about the troubles at the Animal Rescue. It is painful but understandable. You are right. We are all feeling the pinch and I doubt it will end any time soon. Hopefully they will still be able to get out the message about spaying and neutering as that is the most reliable way to stop the breeding of unwanted pups. Education is the key. Raising public awareness is also so important. I wonder....have you got a program there where someone can go and talk to the schools about animal welfare? It is never to early to teach children how to care for animals and often that is not taught in the homes.

WE have the finest group that go to the schools and teach a course in animal care. When the course is finsihed the students receive a certificate and a bracelet that reads It's not cool to be cruel and the othe side reads Old Fella Burke County Animal Rescue. Spay and neuter is a big issue that is taught. We have reached a lot of homes this way as the students take the certificate home and the parents get to see it.

Richard...this is great. I should have known that you were on top of things. Sounds like a really wonderful program. Hopefully it will have the trickle UP effect and make a big difference in the future as these kids grow up and pass it on.

I am worried about Charlie. Sue had a ham bone she had used to make soup. She gave it to Charlie to chew on and he must have Swallowed the thing whole. When I went out side a few minutes later to see how he was doing it was gone. Now I am worried about it blocking his bowels and binding him up. He didn't want his food this morning and that is not Charlie. Maybe I need to talk with Dr. Ford and get her view of this?

Oh my, yes talk to Dr Ford and see if he will be able to pass it. Sounds like he isn't into chewing, just swallow it whole. Let us know.
