The front leg that is swollen is the one that has been the problem. It was shattered at some time and was allowed to heal on it's own. When it was x-rayed it was a mess and showed dark hollow places in the bone that never grew back. Dr. Ford put him on calcium pill to help the bone grow back. He was doing so well and everything looked positive. Friday night when he was in the camper I noticed he was not putting any weight on it and was it swelling. I don't know what happened as he was inactive Friday because of the ride to Greenville and it was raining when we got there so there wasn't any playing outside.

By the time we got home today he was in a lot of pain . I have to lift him in and out of the truck and I also had to do the same going in and out of the camper. He is resting right now with a full tummy and I gave him a pain pill, some of which I had left over from Fella's illness. I will take him in to see Dr. Ford first thing in the morning to see what is going on.

We are looking forward to seeing you there. Most likely Charlie will make the trip unless Dr. Ford advises against it. Looking at the weather think everyone had better take a jacket.

Richard - It was so good talking to you on Saturday! Thanks for the pics. The trees really are beutiful. In another month I'll bet they will be breath-taking. Hope the gas situation improves for you down south. Take care and my best to Sue and the furkids! We are looking forward to meeting them all "soon."

I hope all is well with Charlie. I have been viewing the Old Fella Story almost since the beginning and admire Richard and Sue for all they have done on behalf of furkids(I should have bought stock in Kleenex). Richard has a way with words and apparently furkids. I have never purchased a furkid and have been saved by my furkids rather than having saved them. I am in need of advice as I have a Chocolate Lab named BEAR with a slight weight problem who is getting up in age. He has difficulty in getting in and out of my 4wheel pickup truck and my fifth wheel trailer. Richard I noticed Suzie sitting on a ramp that looks perfect could you tell me where you purchased it from.

It's called Pet Loader and it has served us well. Old Fella used it and now so does Charlie. It supports 250 pounds and well built. Here is the link for it.

Charlie has been diagnosed with bone cancer with little hope of recovery. The options are to remove the leg and chemo therapy if the lungs show no sign of developing cancer. Sue and I will pray about this and make a decision. Dr. Ford advised not to take Charlie with us to West Virginia as the leg is in danger of breaking at any moment.

Now comes the hard part.

Sandy and I are so sorry Richard. This is one of the most difficult diagnoses to take. By the time it is found, the cancer has usually spread. Do consider the amputation. It's major function is to relieve pain. I've had many patients have pain free happy months post surgery before being affected by the metastatic disease.

Oh Richard, that is such sad news. Was praying for a different outcome. Please keep us posted as to what you decide to do.
