Certainly, Fate knew that Charlie needed to be with you right now. You've walked this road before and can help ease him down this road with love and compassion. Something he may never have had as an old dog, unwanted and all alone in a shelter cage. I am sorry you are back here again so soon, while the memory of Fella is still so fresh, but glad for Charlie, that he has a friend right now.

how terrible. i have been down that road with a lab and it is difficult. She couldn't have amputation because of previous problems with her ACL's in both legs. I can't remember right off who had a dog with it recently, but she did a lot using natural foods and herbal supplements. Perhaps she will chime in or just do a new post. It kept the dog going for a while - dog's name was Chaos I think. Wait, I looked it up sue.t is the person.

I am so sorry - you are in my prayers as is Charlie. How blessed he has been to wind up with you and Sue.

I thought fate couldn't possibly be so cruel as to hand you this again. I'm so sorry... hang in there.

In a way I count Charlie as a blessing. He would have died in the animal shelter alone and in pain if someone hadn’t come along and given him a home. If you remember it was Charlie that picked me as he climbed into my truck while I had the doors open unloading dog food at the pound.

Charlie is such a happy dog and has the personality of both Levi and Fella, what more could anyone ask for than to have one dog with all of the best qualities all rolled into one neat package. Sue and I have truly been blessed to share our home with such a loving personality as Charlie. These past three months have gone by so fast but they have been jam packed with beautiful memories of walking on the beach at Hunting Island where we enjoyed so many hours with Levi and Fella. Yes it is a hard pill to swallow, but even if I had known from the beginning this would be Charlie’s fate, I would do it all over again. To see the joy in his face when he is playing with Suzie and chasing the ball is worth all the heart ache we will endure. Just think of the reunion at Rainbow Bridge when I finally get there, Levi, Fella, Charlie and Bart. What more could any man wish for?

Richard, although fate if often cruel. Charlie could not have chosen a beter friend for his last days. Sad as it will be, I know you will do what is right for him when the time comes and he will know that he has been and will be loved forever. My deepest sympathies.

So sorry to hear the news about Charlie. No matter what the final outcome, you know that he will spend the last days of his life in a good home with a good family and friends to play with. I know that the last year has been tough with the loss of Levi and Fella, and now Charlie's illness, but tonight is the start of a new year, a time for Hope. To Richard and Sue, and all my friends on the forum, Jewish and non-Jewish, I wish you a Happy New Year (in Hebrew, Shanah Tovah), and may the coming year be kind to you and yours. Gary

I cannot add anything to the above, except prayers for you, Charlie and Sue, God Bless you both.

You are a strong man Richard. Prayers for all....and yes, in the earlier pictures of Charlie, if a dog could grin, he was doing it. Thank you for going down this road with him.....

This morning Charlie's leg is swollen twice its size all the way to the shoulder. He is in pain and won't eat his breakfast and is not interested in Suzie or Peaches. He wags ihs tail for Sue and I when we come to him but you can tell he is depressed.

After talking with Dr. Ford one more time I will be taking him in a little while to say good bye and send him on his journey to Rainbow Bridge.

There is nothing more to add, except to say, Charlie has a lot of friends waiting for him at The Rainbow Bridge. Prayers sent to you and Sue.
