Thanks to everyone who is making Old Fella Burke County Animal Rescue climb toward the top. Top 5 in the state and 134 over all is quite an accomplishment, so keep up the good work.
Peaches is showing an improvement with her hip now that she is losing some of that weight. This morning she stood flat footed on the floor and jumped up on the couch. I was amazed to see her able to do that. She is getting a lot of excercise being outside a lot and of course with Suzie around she tries to keep up with her so that is helping.
I have finally taken up the dog bed in the bedroom that was Fella's and Charlie's. Now that spot looks empty as I walk by and look. Charlie's time with us was too short as I was looking forward to having him around for a long time. He was such a sweet dog and so happy all the time.
I don't know if it was just something that happened to us with three dogs or if cancer is common amoung older dogs. It seems to start with some injury to the bones or arthritis and then goes from there. Levi's cancer started with the prostrate and spread into the bone so his was different from Fella and Charlie, but we saw it happen with Bart our Doberman with his arthritis as it went into cancer and quickly spread through his body.
Now I am worried about Peaches as I watch her struggling with her hip knowing she has had an injury to the bone from being hit by a car two years ago, but so far cancer doesn't seem to be a player with her disability and as the weight comes off she is getting better. The socket and hip bone have been damaged and according to Dr. Ford needs surgery to correct the condition, but I want another opinion before going any further with that suggestion.
We are having electricity run to the property at Camp Dixie this week so our visits there will be less stressful without having to keep the generator running all the time when the weather is hot. Its not that much trouble in the cooler weather because you can just open up the camper and stay comfortable and run the generator just long enough to keep the battery charged. However, it seems to always be raining when I have to put gas in the thing and it is a problem keeping water out of the gas tank if I am trying to do fill it by myself.
I remember the popup days when you had to put it up and down in the rain, it seems it never failed to rain when you were trying to pack up to go home.
Okay, I have to go for now so I will talk with you later. Keep up the good work and keep voting for Fella.
