All of these are great tips. My wife and I both do a walk-around inspection before leaving a site. Many times we find things that are left undone. Check the tow car too. Brake off, in neutral, etc., etc. I have discovered that a child's diaper pail with a pop up lid makes a great RV garbage can. Nice and small. I got tired of lifting the seats to lift out stuff, so I made plywood boxes that fit through the seat side entry door. I put teflon slides on them, and it works great. Take your time on the road and only do things you feel comfortable with. RVing is great fun and you will meet some great people!

I think with all the good advice you have gotten. When you get back from your first M/H vacation ,I don't know about everyone else, but I would love to hear how everything went, and if any of that advice came in handy.
Gee I'm excited I cant wait to hear it all.
I think we should call it........ armed and ready to go.

This is incredible. Do you guys realize that this thread is over five years old? It is still getting action. Good for us!!
Here is a new tip that I thought of. It's not about RVs, but driving in general: On a two lane road be very careful on right-hand curves because the on-coming traffic, who have a left-hand curve, may cross the centerline into your space. This happens when the on-coming driver is going faster than the 'drive-through' speed of the curve and has to turn tighter in order to maintain control. It is very common so watch for it as it can kill you.

Wow! My comment would be "have fun and don't sweat the small stuff"...
...but I'm really posting so I can find this post easier...and really read and re-read it (when I have a lot more time!)...and share it with my husband.
Thanks to all that have posted!

Congratulations
We purchased a new MH last and there is a lot to learn.
The real key to enjoying your new toy is to take it slow.
And as others have said don’t sweat the small stuff. Because stuff is going to happen.
Link to stupid stuff I did
Hope they help you to avoid the stuff I did,
Once again, congratulations and enjoy the journey.

Great thread! One thing I learned to do when on an interstate is to quickly look at the right and left convex mirrors to see where I was in relation to the highway lines. After a couple of times, you learn to use the left convex mirror to maintain a constant amount of road space between you and the center line. The key word is "quickly".

Wow! Thanks, Jim, for posting the above links. I printed most of them out and plan to make the ladder laundry bracket (GREAT idea). I chuckled at your "mistakes" listing, but also printed it out to make sure we don't make the same mistakes. We are new to class A RV'g and are still getting used to our new-to-us rig. This thread is invaluable to newbies like us!

Read all the manuals that came with your unit.
Spend a morning underneath the unit to see what you have and where things are located.
Open everything and inspect well.
If you have any problems or questions call the dealer of the product manufacture.

Don't be too hard on yourself. For awhile, your MH will be smarter than you.
