Personally, I wouldnt use any water in the black or gray tank over winter, Id be concerned about the dump valves freezing and cracking.
Yes, the tank itself will give water lots of expansion room, but not the valves, and thats where the water will settle too.
I will completely drain my holding tanks over winter.
Maybe a shot of silicone spray into the end of the dump valve to keep the seals lubricated over the winter months.
But you will get lots of ideas here, and lots of good info, this is how I do it.
Hope this helps

What about draining all the water from the Blank tank, and just add a gallon of anti freeze.

only thing I ? why use water in the tanks over the winter, I think you should only use antifreeze in the tanks and lines, why take the chance of putting water in the tanks,

I put water in to work with the chemicals and keep the odors down. The other thing is that even with flushing the tank out there is still a certain amount of 'residue' that will remain; the combination of water and chemical really keeps the tank from drying out along with whatever is left in it. You (or I should say 'I') never want the black tank to dry out.
The valve won't break since any water will simply freeze 'up' into the tank. As I wrote previously, with the anti-freeze used for the toilet system flushing into the tank, it never really freezes solid anyway. It gets really cold here for extended period of times (-20-30F) and all of my local rv buddies along with myself use this same process.
I imagine that you could use anti-freeze instead of water but you'll get the same 'slush' effect. The anti-freeze (even pure) will turn into a heavy slush that simply doesn't expand.

I would say its kind of a crapshoot in Las Vegas. I think if you got a really cold winter where your day time highs only got to about 40 and your night times were in the 15 degree range for a couple of days you could have some trouble although probably not. I think the danger is in the plastic valve mainly in the toilet and two showers. Those all broke in my trailer. My guess is you could drain the water and still have some water left in the valves. Thats why some people mention using compressed air and blowing the lines out. The RV anti freeze isnt terribley expensive and you might be able to get by with 2-3 gallons. I also dont think its that hard to get rid of.

After winterizing with the pink RV antifreeze throughout the water lines, the antifreeeze will keep any seals moist that need to be moist
BINGO! Drain ALL water from EVERYWHERE in your RV. Feel free to pour some pink antifreeze (or just pump it in via your toilet) to the black tank....but NO WATER!
