I'm curious about sum1's comment about corners.
Yeah, my poorly worded post referred to backing around corners.

My solution to this dilema was to go out and find a Cheap Jeep Tons of fun and light. Sure it is yet another vehicle in my family but it is sure fun to play around sun and snow More fun then a trailer. I can completely see why if you had a motorcycle or nice car (classic etc.) that needed protection why an enclosed trailer makes sense but for everyday TOADing I think 4down is cheapest/easiest.

I'm thinking of purchasing a aluminum trailer to carry my toad on behind my class A. Avantages would be saving the wear and tear on the toad and having a more dependable braking system. Down sides would be additional cost,a place to store when not towing and probably a few more I have not thought of yet.Does anyone have experiences with using a trailer? Thanks much for any information.

What did You end up doing?

We went 4-down to make it easier on us while travelling. If we wanted to save some $$$ we'd have gone with a trailer...only one braking system regardless of the vehicle. FOr us it meant buying and outfitting the toad as our other vehicles weren't 4-down capable.

We decided on an enclosed trailer. We did not want to be limited to 4 down towables. We have a Nissan Versa. We also have 2 - 125cc scooters and a bunch of "stuff" that we like to have when we go north in the summer and south in the winter. Were pretty much staying put these days and the trailer is parked nearby and is like a garage for projects. When we had to pack-up awhile ago for Fay we were able to be completly packed and ready to go in 3 hours and that included a bunch of plants. It works great for us.

I just bought a 36' Fleetwood Bounder and I have a 2002 Chevy Trailblazer to toad. I'm thinking that the Trailblazer might be too heavy to tow and also use too much gas, so I'm thinking of downsizing the Trailblazer to a lighter and smaller vehicle. Also, my trailer hitch is rated for 5000lbs. and my Trailblazer is 5,100lbs. I'm also concerned whether or not I can tow my Trailblazer safely?

after making our 22 state trip this summer with a dolly, I'd go 4 down if possible... for our trip we spent allot of 1-2 nighters, and it did become a hassle to load up the dolly each morning on the way out, true it only takes 15 minutes, but more times than not that was the 15 minutes it was raining or had just rained, and you're laying on the muddy ground tightening straps or securing chains... we went with the dolly because I thought it would give us more flexibility with choosing the toad, since you in theory can pull any fwd car, the problem we quickly ran into was the car I wanted to take was our VW Jetta, however that became too time consuming to load because of the extremely low ground clearance on the front bumper, so we ended up taking our Pontiac Minivan... now we're selling the van and have replaced it with an escalade that can't be towed four down or on a dolly, so we're scrapping the dolly for a four down setup on the jetta...
The other hassle with the dolly was not being able to back up, it only stranded us once on the trip where we had to wait 45 mins for a fuel truck to finish unloading, but it certainly restricted a lot of the places we would venture into en route, and we had all 4 lights on the brand-new dolly burn out during the trip, at least with the 4 down you can un-hook and turn the motorhome and then rehook in a very short amount of time if you're in a pinch, regardless of weather, the dolly you're talking 30 mins total unload-reload, and its going to be raining 75% of the time! We also considered a open 4 wheel trailer but with a gas A, the numbers usually don't add up to keep you under your towing capacity, and you still have the 30 minute load/unload time frame...
