WEll here is my .02 . I have a 4x4 f150 supercrew. I have spoken with several Ford people and this is what they told me.

Drop the drive shaft or use a disconnect
Put the switch to 2h
Put ingintion to unlock wheel (no power)

Tow away... I just put 1100 mile on this way with no problems

if once you dont suuuceedd
If once you deont succeed
If once you dont succeed try tryyyy
If once you dont' succedd
Ok if once you dont succeed just freaking DO IT!!!!!!!!!!

bigbubba, I like choices, so will look into this, but where does one get a dsiconnect? Dropping a driveshaft sounds like too much work and dirt to be fun on a regular basis.

you can tow the ford 4x2 or 4x4 all you need is a driveline disconnect.

I traded my 2004 F250SD PS CrewCab 4x4 because it wasn't towable four down.

I traded for a 2006 Silverado 1500 CrewCab 4x4 which was towable. It was a great toad until I had two of then stolen in 2006...I now tow a Grand Cherokee Limited.

When we bought our current toad, we wanted a new Ford 4X4 F-250 and the dealer in Citrus County flat said, it was not towable 4 down and showed me the owners manual where it said that. At the price of a new truck, I had no intention of giving them a reason to deny a warranty claim, if anything went wrong in the drive train. I believe a Ford dealer over anyone on this forum.

if you are taking the advice of a salesman at the dealership well what can i say.go to a local trans shop and they can tell you if you can tow it 4 down and they can give the reason you can or cannot.some people have more money than brains and will not even bother to research on thier own and just take someones advice as the final word.sorry for going on and on but it realy bugs me.....

You buy a new $50K truck and have your transmission man tell you it's towable when the Ford manual say in bold print it is NOT towable 4 down and make sure your transmission man gives you a warranty for the transfer case and transmission, as Ford will deny any warranty when they see the tow setup. This was not a salesman, but the owner of the Ford dealership. Sorry, but I too am tired of people saying the factory people are stupid and that the local grease monkey knows more than the engineer who designed it.

first, if you pay 50000.for a new truck, like i said more money than brains.2-if you are going to buy a new car or truck for towing, sure get one thats easy to tow with no modifications.i am talking about a person with a little older vehicle out of warrenty thats paid for and they like.1000 bucks for a driveline disconnect or 20000 to 30000 $ for a new vehicle.just find out the reason it can not be towed and work with it.and next time you take your vehicle in for work be sure and let the tech know that you think of him or her as just a grease monkey,i'm sure that will go over well.
