Eric, I just posted and saw your last reply. Do you have the Jake Plate on you Eagle?

If Jayco had put this unit on its TT's or at least used a 3" or 4" subframe assembly instead of 2" I would have save myself a lot of time and some $ by not having to flip axles. But hey, that would have cost them a little more money.

gorjo01, the Marathon 225/75 D is 28.3" in Diameter. The Michelin 245 specs are here. Also consider the 225's if space is going to be more of an issue. Now, on the 235's you will really have to watch the space that will be left between the tires, even if you do have the vertical clearance available.

Thanks LEC, the wheels that came on my 5ver look just like the series 3, in fact they may even be Hi Specs. I am needing to upgrade to a G rated tire and will purchase the Series 06 in their 3960 rating which should cover my axle requirements. The tires that came with my 5ver barely cover my actual weight and will not cover my axle capabilty. I am a believer in having tires and wheels that equal or exceed the axle capability. Looks like I will be buying the series 06.

Don't want to hijack this post, but I was thinking about upgrading to 16" tires also, but I would like to know apart from the obvious cost of the tires and wheels, what other expenses are involved? What about clearance? Do you need to replace your axles also?

When I went from 15" to 16" I still had enough clearance between the tires as well as enough clearance from the top of the tire to the top of the wheel well, both og which I had enough clearance to do so...has made a vast improvement on stability and towing the the fifth wheel

Thanks for the info, can you give me the exact size of your replacement tire?

Let me get back to you on the exact size but I went with Uniroyal Laredo "E" LT tires (glad to dump the ST tires) and like I said made a world of difference...

...and for LEC yes I have the Jake Plate which gave me enough clearance in the wheel well and between the tires when I put the 16" tires on

Sherr20, Since you have 8 lugs look at their 17.5" wheels.

I am sure you are aware of the post on Escapees about the Goodyear tires. The only thing I don't like about that tire is the "ST" part and its not recommended for use on anything but a trailer. Makes me wonder in this one will be the next "Marathon" Also, I think Goodyear maybe the only one with a "G" rated tire of this size on the market.

17.5" tires give you a lot of options. See Michelin's truck tire site. I think you can get the overall diameter down very close to the Goodyear's.

I think you also can get Alcoa wheels in the 17.5" tire size. Now that would be by far the pick of the litter. Hey, its only money.

BTW, keep your head down.

You can read about our upgrade to 16" wheels and Michelin XPS Ribs here. I also had some clearance issues to resolve, discussed here (corrected link) and here.

Pritch, you look like you have had as much fun with springs and axles as I have. The slide outs on Jayco are electric. So thankfully they do not have that bar under the slide running parallel to the frame.

Looks like I was running about 3 months behind you retrofitting my mess. Anyway, no more 14", 15" or 16" ST tires for me on anything again.

Eric, I would be interested in knowing your tire size because clearance concerns me.

LEC & pritch272, thanks for the excellent info.

Any ballpark cost figures would be appreciated!

I upgraded from 15" to 16". Here is a link about the rims I selected for the new Michelins:

The Rims I used

Here are some pics:

15" vs 16"

I did raise the 5'er and inch on its suspension to get more clearance.

gorjo01, here is your ballpark pricing on the XPS tire. Add $15 for balancing and mounting + your local taxes and it should be close to what you will pay locally.
