If you are coming from Southern California, then most definetly take that route thru Paso Robles. We however live in Northern California and went down, past the lake then traveled north again !!! It's a loooooooong and funny story. I think it took us about 8-9 hours to get to the lake on that trip.

Happy Birthday Judy

Anyone else coming from Sac area? I asked already, but which way do you go? We go to San Luis Obispo, and go down I5 to Avenal, but I was wondering if going 80-680-101 is better roads/faster? Anyone know?

See you in a few days!

We used to live in Modesto... You want to take I-5 to 152 (Pacheco Pass) trun left on 156 (just passed Casa De Frutia) then hit 101 and go south to Jolon Road (G-14) and then follow Judy's directions.. YOU WILL NOT BE COMING IN FROM THE SOUTH....

wow, thanks everyone! sounds like the best route, and with two kids, one being a year old, i dont want to be in the truck any longer than necessary! Much less 8 or 9 hours!

how long is it, time wise, after exiting 5, is it to the lake? I need to find a stop about half way to let the monsters run loose for a few. I know there is some places in Santa Nella I can park at if necessary.

You are probably looking at 3 1/2 hours give or take 15min or so from I5 I would guess. (I am basing this on the fact that it takes 45mins from Los Banos to Gilroy and it takes us about 2 1/2 - 3 hours to get to SAL from Gilroy.) The nice thing is that the 152/156 interchanged has been vastly improved so you should not hit much of a delay there.

You might want to stop a Casa de Fruta as that is a nice stop and fairly RV accessible. From there you will have to wait a while before finding anything though.

Well, guys and gals, we are out of here in the morning. AIS 4am.

We'll have wood ready for an evening campfire when the other early arrivers appear on Thursday.

I'll capture as many tarantulas as I can, and promise not to BBQ any until more folks arrive.

Don, these directions are on the very first post.

Coming from the South
Take highway 101 north to Paso Robles, exit on 24th Street (G-14) and proceed approximately 7 miles. Note, this is a steep grade but very doable in an RV. Turn right on San Antonio Road and proceed approximately 7 miles to the gate entrance. It’s about a 45-minute drive from Paso Robles.

there is NO...NO..I repeat....NO exit 24 North Bound....look for the highway 41 exit..... then turn left (or West if you prefer)

Doug with your recent track record you might want to get a presto log, get in your cushy chair and wait for Joel to arrive.
