Been there done that, not a good way to save money. There are some excellent deals out there on lightly used rigs. Four bucks a gallon for gas this summer will result in more of them.

Nearly every used RV you look at will need refurbishing, it's just a matter of convincing the owners that it is no longer worth the $xx,000 they paid for it ten years ago.
I have seen many a rig that the owner was asking 6 to 8 grand for, when they were really worth about $1500.
At the recent RV show here, you could have bought an '02 Bounder DP with EXTENSIVE water damage for $74,000. I guess they were hoping you wouldn't notice.
In fact it had more water damage than my 1992 that sat outdoors untouched for the 6 years before I bought it!
Every RV has roof leaks whether you can see them or not. Shoot low with prices so you have room for undiscovered "treasure."

Start here in Florida. The RV graveyard. There are enough to keep prices down and give you real choice depending on what how ambitious you want to get.
