We are looking to move up to a Class A and was wondering if anyone had checked out the New MH's at the Rally, are there any can't turn down deals being made? I was quoted 30%off on a new septor and was told that they may could do a little better?? Any body got a good deal?

30% off is pretty good.

The dealer in it's home sales lot has a bunch of expences.

Washing the RV's so they look good for the weekends that people show up to look at them, cleaning the carpets on Monday, and paying for "Flooring Charge".

Lets say that you have $1,000,000 in invintory on the lot, and have a 9% loan. That means that $90,000 a year is spent to keep the RV's on the lot. Now that is not to many RV's!

At the RV rally, the manufactures provide 15 - 25 units. They did not reach the dealer's lot, so no flooring charge. They usually will include "Something" to make the deal a little better, like the one I saw had "Free" full body paint, while the ones being sold at the dealer's lot include a manufactures "Suggested" price of $7831 to paint the coach.

So I was looking over a Expedition with a list price of about $167,000 and two dealers where telling me and the wife that they could sell it to us for around $118,000. I guess that is a little less than 30% off. But you also have to look at the "Suggested" retail price. Is the RV really worth that much money? How did they come up with the MSRP?

We passed because of the new $1,000 payments and that our current RV was paid for, and retirement was 10 years away. Also we wanted a new RV in retirerment, not a 10 year old one. I am glad that we kept the one that was paid for - that was 4 years ago, and we would have made $48,000 in payments so far, not including the next 11 years payments to actually pay for it. And the old paid off RV is still running great!

We really never averaged more than about 5,500 miles a year driving the RV, so the diesel would have just sat around losing value and requiring expensive maintenance.

So yes you can expect a 30% drop in price for ordering at the RV show. How will the dealer stay un business if all units are sold with only $2,000 profit? Not for very long. Think they have 4 - 8 salesmen that also expect to earn $40,000 + a year to support their families, and the dealership must bring in some profit. At the RV show, a $2,000 profit for only talking with you for a few hours is like "Gravy money". But at the dealership, where the expenses add up every week, they need to cover their overhead.

Fred.

I hear what you are saying, but on the other hand if you know what you want and you purchase it at the show and only use a couple hrs of the salestaffs time should you still pay a years salary? They are counting on future business relationship and advertising. I am one that does not run back to the dealer with every little thing that happens, I usually take care of most items myself so I do not consider myself a high maintaince person that is going to use 20,000 worth of warranty services beating the dealership out of everything from soup to nuts...
