With the ever increasing cost of fuel, the uncertainty in the RV Industry and the general woes in the Economy - would anyone be seriously looking at buying a new 36'+ Class A today?

Due to jobs etc, we may be going back to a stick house soon and if so then the big Beaver will go and we will look for a B+, probably based on a Sprinter chassis.

I understand fulltimes (as we are) still need the space but for vacations etc the B+ seems to make so much more sense today.

So, is anyone out there still considering the purchase of a new Class A?

No, but if we could sell our boat we'd be buying a used DP!

Personaly I don't think that the question of class A or class B would hold much water if you are just looking based on fuel price. They both come in gas or diesel and the fuel milage (except on some of the little..and I do mean LITTLE...sprinters) is about the same....If you are willing to go that small why not just get a van conversion???? Good question. We have a DP Beaver too. I figure now is not the time to sell, let alone buy. It's as much the question of why is diesel $4.50 in the west and still going up!!! And up to where??? We don't full time. Got out last year for 6 weeks total.. This year, we've been out twice for 8 days total. We said when we bought, (we are willing to pay as much as $4.00 gal. Then it will start to make the trips shorter.) That was when diesel was $2.80 gal !!!! Crazy, just crazy...

With predictions (lately alot of these predictions have come true) of gas and diesel at $8-$10 gallon, there is NO WAY. Save your money and start preparing for a rough time for at least the next 5 years.

The B+ that we have been looking at have varied between 17mpg and 22mph depending upon GVWR - that's a huge difference from the 7-8 for the Beaver. These are the 2.7 liter 5 cylinder Mercedes diesel engined RVs.

Actually looking at Allegro and Nemar Bunk models at the moment. I'm sure that whatever happens with the economy, we shall weather the storm. I think that we will see a reversal of fuel prices as people get on the bandwagon of pumping our own oil. The media is hyping the economy badly, we ARE NOT in a recession, and if you are reasonably debt free (i.e dont make payments on credit cards and multiple consumer loans) then you should be good to go.
If you are debt ridden, RV'ing isn't for you, as well as many other activities.

We already decided not to take ours to Montana this summer, can't justify the fuel costs. May try to sell it (Fleetwood Flair) and get a used B.

For now we'll continue to go. But I'm thinking 5 bucks is going to be the cut off for awhile. I'll just go to our site in a private campground 6 miles from home and pretend we're thousands of miles away. Most likely when it gets above $5.00 you won't be able to give away a unit. I don't think fuel will ever go down much if any. But I kinda think soon it might level off for awhile so we can all get ready for the next surge. Who really knows? We all or should know going into this hobby it's a hobby and there's not much justifying other than hobby and most hobbies are a money pit. That's why I don't ride the motorcycles anylonger. You can't do everything. We did that awhile and towed the bikes. Bike rallies are expensive. So we just do the motor coach thing when we get time and hopefully in a few years after we retire we can afford to run around a little in the DP. I personally after owning new and used, I would look used. There a bunch of good ones out there with the bugs worked out. It take time to find, but in some cases worth it. IMHO

Just takin it a day at a time,
Hank
