Not all rigs/slide manufacturers use locking bars...my Fleetwood w/Powergear slides has no bar locking option.

Makes me kinda glad that I have hydraulic activated slides. Although a hose could fail, I don't think the slide would quickly move out.

Also, a slide should contact at the top about a half inch before the bottom. Then the slide mechanisum (hydraulic or rack and pinion) should pull the bottom tight. There are adjusting bolts between the slide arms and the slide itself to tilt it up (or let it down) on my MH.

I guess after reading this thread, I won't begrudge the little voice anymore.

THAT #%@&&+++#$#%%#hate "voice" is proof positive that NONE of Newmar's designers/workers have ever gone camping in a Newmar motorhome. In the showroom, it's,.... "oh, isn't that clever". In the field, the words are on the opposite side of the spectrum.
AND, did I ever tell you how stupid it is to have 3 locations for the water pump switch, which has a design where you must return to the switch that you used for turning the pump ON, in order to turn it OFF?

They must have changed the design of the pump switch. Ours is a momentary switch that can be shut off at any of the 4 switch locations. It has a green LED which indicates the status of the pump.

It would be nice to be able to turn off that voice, or at least lower the volume to barely audible.

Our coach didn't come with lock bars, the manual says nothing about locking, and there is no room to put one on if I wanted to. So, I just assume the slide mechanisms are designed to stay put on their own. Our 5th wheel had two lock bars. The dealer showed me how to install them on the top, but logic and experience told me that the outward pressure was at the bottom, so I used them there. Again the manual said nothing. Regarding hydraulic slides, are they being installed much any more? Maybe on the higher-end RVs?

I'm enjoying all of these replies ... love the "little voice" story. Just another thing to break! LOL. Yes, I'll continue to use the bars.

Bars are ok if you can remember to take them down before extending slide.
