I'm picking up my new (used) Fleetwood Diesel from Portland and would like some advice on a route to Detroit. What kind of grades should I expect ?

I84 to I86 to I15, south on 15 to US 30. East on 30 to I 80. The construction in Chicago should be under control by now, so that bottle neck won't be an issue. The grades in OR are the only ones of consequence, and they aren't bad. This is the most direct route, done it many times. Nebraska is not a great drive but it's got to be crossed. Iowa has rolling hills and it can get windy sometimes. Stop a Walcott to experience the 'Worlds largest truck stop'.
Enjoy the ride.

Been to that truck stop....
Side note.. It's about an hour off your path but if you have any towing issues (need to pick up a little something for the towed) Blue-OX in Pender Nebraska has a nice little park for you to overnight in... If the wind is not blowing FROM the stockyards that is
And when you get back to Detroit.. If you need to empty something.. PM me

I lived in Bend, OR for a couple of years and made several trips to Ohio. We came the same route mentioned but stayed on 84 to 80 southeast of Ogden. Maybe there is a reason to go 86 to Pocatello and then down 15 back to 84 that I don't know about. It is a nice trip. BE SAFE.

We are presently in Portland OR, will be heading to Indiana come end of July. We will be taking I-84 to I-80, it isn't a bad trip, and the quickest way. We wouldn't mess with the 86, 15 thing, much easier to go 84 to 80 and on up to Detroit from there. Have a safe trip.

Cabbage Hill in OR is a long uphill but it's doable, just take your time.
