Hello all, I am wondering if anyone knows the tow rating for a Dodge 2500 4 x 4 Mega Cab with a 6.7 Cummins. I am contemplating switching to a 5er from my TT.
Looking for info on 5er towing with this vehicle.
Thanks in advance.

Look on your door post where the Tire Data is. Your GVW should be 9,000 and you likely weigh about 7,000 loaded for travel. That 2,000 pounds needs to cover the hitch and the pin weight.
The tow capacity is 13,000, but with a 20% (or more) pin weight you would be looking at 2,600 to maybe 3,000 pounds pin weight.
Have fun.

As Tee says, the truck must be adequate to carry the weight of the front of the trailer. The truck maker gives us five weight limits...GVWR, front & rear axle GAWR, combined loaded truck plus loaded trailer GCWR, and the marketing department supplies the tow rating.

I think you'll find the limiting factor is tire capacity.

Try this website. It allows you to select your specific configuration. It works for 2007/8 trucks.

The Dodge 2500 Megacab with CTD is THE WORST POSSIBLE DODGE TRUCK TO BUY FOR TOWING A FIFTH WHEEL TRAILER. There, that's off my chest. The payload on that truck is only 1578 lbs, per the Dodge website. The truck is too heavy and the single rear wheels don't have enough capacity. By the time you put four or five adults in the thing and fill it up with fuel, you don't have enough payload to to carry the pin weight of any known fifth wheel.
For some reason, the fact that Dodge makes that truck with such a small payload really irritates me. Great truck, no capacity to do truck stuff. I understand the Ford F250 Crewcab is about the same, so it's not just Dodge. If these trucks are truly capable of doing the job, then the manufacturers should say so in writing. I get really upset when I see a TV commercial for these things and I know good and well that the truck in the commercial is overloaded per the manufacturers own ratings. Sorry for having a negative opinion.

If you take 20K and subtract curb weight of 7450, you end up with max trailer of 12,550. Very reasonable, to me, especially if you look at the normal tongue weight of a tag trailer at say 12%, you get TW of 1500 lbs. Matches up nicely with the payload of the truck at 1600 odd lbs. BUT if you fill it with fuel and have people in the seats - the same ones as in the commercial, say - three husky guys in the back, another in the passenger seat in front for total of five 220 lbs guys, you get say 150 lbs extra fuel and 1100 lbs of people, total 1250. that leaves you 350 lbs of available payload for all luggage, stuff in the bed, tongue weight... So with 350 lbs of tongue weight, you get a 3500 lb trailer.
There was a test somewhere a few days ago that showed this truck, at max GVWR, actually stopped in a shorter distance than when it was empty. This is a great truck. I just don't know why Dodge put it together with such a low payload rating. There is ample room on the rear axle weight rating for another thousand pounds of payload. Yes, you still would have to watch your tire and axle ratings, but it should have a higher payload rating from the manufacturer.

Look at this site:
Dodge Body Builder's Guide
If you dig a little on this web site you can calculate exactly what your specific truck (with the options, wheelbase, etc.) will tow.
