Old gas pumps can't handle ever-rising prices
I can't seem to find any of those pumps in our area - especially ones for diesel fuel. Oh well......

Within an hour radius of our home I know of five stations that use those pumps. They are all diesel pumps and see quite a bit of use.

So does that mean I can get diesel for $3.999 if I drive all the way to Maryland to fill up?

LOL
I have not frequented those other stations lately but for some reason I do not think you would have much luck at those pumps.

Those old pumps don't concern me. What has me worried are the newest digital display electronic pumps I've seen. They have three digits to the left of the decimal point on the price per gallon display, and six digits to the left of the decimal point on the total cost display!
Do they know something they're not telling us?

I ran into one of these pumps a few weeks ago. There was a sign on the pump that directed me to ignore the $$ displayed and only to note the gallons I pumped. I then went inside and they calculated (with a hand calculator) the amount I owed based on the number of gallons I pumped.

The price changes so quickly that they may start giving us the per gallon price AFTER we pump, and that price tied to the market and whether or not some Nigerians are threatening to bomb a pipeline or perhaps Chavez's rant of the day comment.

I'm expecting marine gas to exceed $4/gallon since gas is now $3.84 on land and Memorial Day is two weeks away. That's getting very expensive even for people running smaller outboards but I still expect to see as many yachts as I did last year, maybe more.

Quote: To deal with the problem, some state regulators are allowing half-pricing — displaying the price for a half-gallon of gas, then doubling the price shown on the meter.
That's exactly what the small station here in town has done. They have a sign up stating that the price will be DOUBLE what's shown on the meter. I filled up the other day for $40.40 . . . . unfortunately, I had to write the check for $80.80!

Read an article in local paper about a small town here in ND that has the same problem and they were going to put out a sign saying the price was per half gallon. The local owner couldn't afford the price of new pumps.
