Hi all im at my witts end. I have a 1978 Winnabego Class A Dodge Chassis mtrhome. It was inherited to me 3 yrs ago and has 6700 ORIGINAL miles on the orig engine. Its been serviced every year. We drove it and parked it for the winter last year without a prob. A month ago we decided to bring it home and went out to start it, It turns over but will not kick to start.
Its getting fuel in the carb.
The timing belt is turning.
We have replaced plugs, coil, wire, distr cap and now were stuck.
It still just turns over and over and over till the battery dies but wont kick into start even with starting fluid.
Help plz hubbys bout to blow it up with dynamite he stated.
thank you.

440? If so there is no timing belt, there is a chain inside the engine. Is it getting spark? Does it have compression?

Sounds like it has no spark. I am not familiar with Dodges but if it was a Chevy I'd be checking the ignition module/ distributor cap.

Spark, and did you use a fuel stabilizer and be sure it was in the complete system. Get a trouble shooting sequence and go from there.

If its getting fire to the plugs, then its not getting gas. With no more miles and sitting for a long time, I would take the carb. off and clean it completely. You may have gas getting to the carb, but is it going thru the carb? Wasp's have been known to build nests in the intake manifold also...Tell Hubby that MH's are a learning project, don't get frustrated, just enjoy.

Pull a plug wire and see if there's spark. If so, the carburetor likely needs to be pulled and cleaned. It could easily be "gunked" up and not passing any fuel if something like Stabil (sp?) wasn't used. I had that happen with an old inboard boat engine once.

Look on the firewall for a ceramic block with 2 wires going to it. This is the ballast resistor and you could also look for the ignition control module which should also be on firewall, it is a square box with a 4 or 5 pin plug. Both of these are responsible for spark.

only 2 things it can be either Spark or fuel, maybe you flooded it,
can be a multitude of things wrong, you won't get it fixed here on the computer for sure, you need a mechanic, or a friend that is,,,,,,

There is a ballast resistor unually mounted on the fire wall, if they go bad no start. It is a whitish rock looking thing that is about 3 inches long and just under a 1/2 inch square with a wire plugged to each end. Use a jumper wire to jump across it. I you get the engine to fire, shut it off and replace the ballast resistor, you will burn the points out without it.
I always carried an extra ballast resistor, starter relay and voltage regulator, these are the 3 things that will leave you stranded.

I vote to check the "points"......something I haven't seen in a while.....if it is a fuel problem, put a new fuel filter on. Check the carb and see if it has what some folks call a "rock" filter.....slijkansas and kenbert have a good "point"......be careful with the dynamite..a small amount can do alot of damage.....jmho
