We stopped at the KOA for a overnight stop a few years back. It is a good place with good BBQ.

Ft Stockton is no longer a KOA. It is a Good Sam RV park. We were there in late April and could not find a spot in any of the parks. It seems that oil field workers had come to town and filled up the parks. You definitely need reservations if you are going to pass thru there. We ended up staying in the WalMart parking lot. It is not a supercenter but they don't mind overnighting there. There must have been 10 RV's in the parking area. Everyone I talked to said the same thing about the parks being full. Good luck!

Thanks for all the replies. I guess we will wing it and see if there is a site available when we get there. If not, Wal-Mart it is!!!!

I've traveled that route quite often. If I were you, I'd change plans and avoid staying in Fort Stockton. I always stay at Van Horn KOA on the west and in Kerrville on the east of Fort Stockton. There are quite a few places in Kerrville. The easiest, and right off of I-10 in Kerrville, is Buckhorn Lake Resort. Those two are about 360 miles apart.

Sounds like a good idea based on other info I've received as well. My estimate was that we'd be in Fort Stockton around 6pm or so. I'll re-plan the route to continue on to Kerrville and it still won't be too late when we get there. Thanks.

Looks like you've made up your mind, but will add my $.02.
We went East in Jan and back West in Feb.
Stayed at the then KOA going east and wouldn't stay there again.
Cancelled my reservations for the return trip.
Stayed at Comanche Land on the West bound leg, with most of the people we had seen all day at the Rest Stops and Picnics stops along the highway.
Would stay there again.
It is what it is and works fine for a one nite overnite stop.

If you need anymore help, you can PM me. We made the round trip from Camarillo to Austin and back, and I can share where we stayed and what we saw, etc.
