I have to make a choice. Anyone want to weigh in? Traveling with four girls, all under the age of 11. Where would they have more fun?

why not just camp on the beach?
but if you need the camp grounds, Pismo Beach RV is closer to the beach, I believe. its been a while
Hunting is not a hobby. It is much more life sustaining than that.

Pismo would be my choice. Pismo is right on the beach, they have a pool, it's kid friendly and it is also within walking distance to the town of Pismo. We had a really bad experience at Campland or "Dumpland" by the Bay. I would not recommend that campground to anyone.

We live about two hours away from Campland and about five hours away from Pismo Beach. Even with the price of fuel, we go to Pismo Coast Village three or four times a year. The central coast is so much nicer.
Your kids will love downtown Pismo Beach and the pier. San Diego has lots of neat things, but Campland is the pits.

What ever you do, DON'T CAMP ON THE BEACH unless you are experianced with dune camping or are part of a large group that is. It is a great place to play, but is absolutly not for the inexperianced. You will get stuck, you will get sand in places you didn't even know you had, you will freeze, and it will get old real fast unless you have a quad, buggy, or rhino to play on.
We go to Pismo often and have stayed just about everywhere. Here are my choices:
#1) Pismo Coast Village (hard to get into, very popular)
#2) Pismo Sands (need toad, it's away from town, but clean and more roomy)
#3) Holiday RV Park (closest to town, extreemly tight spots with no frills, but very nice people and pool)
#4) LaSage Rivera (better than not being in Pismo, toad needed gravel spaces, absolutly no frills)
The Dunes is a great place to play, in my younger days I would camp out there, but its for the young and wild now.

Thanks so much for that piece of advice. We have never done the sand dunes with the quads, so we would definitely fall into the "inexperienced category." I already have reservations at Campland, but based on some of the feedback I am getting, I'm a little worried.

Here is our picture of "Dumpland" Please notice that this is the typical site. You can only see the tire and hood of our rv. It is really tight in there and as you can see there are a lot of people. We will not be going back.

Have stayed at both--just came back from Pismo Beach--Pismo Coast Village--and had a great time--it is right next to the beach/ocean and it is a great beach for walking, exploring or you can drive onto the beach. We rode our bicycles into Pismo--cute seaside town. There are a lot of areas to bicycle.
Campland is huge and a zoo--very small crowded beach--700 sites--very expensive--has sites at different levels--some very crowded, some not so much--we have always stayed at sites that overlook the Bay--they are expensive.
My choice for a good wholesome experience would be Pismo. Lars
