i have put a motorcycle carrier in my toads receiver hitch...there is some play in he mating of the 2 components..this causes the bike to see-saw as i ride down the road...on the male part of same, there is a "collar" about 3 inches out from the female..this makes it difficult to slide anyhing in there to fill slack....any suggestions??

I welded two beads around the male part of the hitch, one as far forward as possible and one in the rear as far as I could. I then ground them down until I had a tight fit. Worked fine and I haven't had any problems. The one thing you need to do is to is to separate the receiver regularly and clean out the fine dist and sand.

They make a J-pin for that. You have to drill an extra hole in your receiver but once you tighten the nut on the pin there is no more slack. It locks to prevent theft as well. I use them on my tow bar and bike rack to get ride of the noise they make when bouncing around. Your hitch shop should have them.

I did the same as John. I Tig'ed beads on both ends where the wear showed it was touching. Then grinder and then file to fit. No more slop.

Blue Ox has a "U" bolt looking devise that has a plate across the open end which tightens across the two pieces. Tightens everything up solid. I use two of them for my tow bar with a drop receiver.

I drilled and threaded two holes into the reciever and jack a screw against the tube ,tighten with a jamb nut . No sound at all, before clunk , clunk over every bump. The welding a nub on the tube is okay but dont leave it in there too long the rust will make it difficult to remove . In N.E. we use road salt.

they make metal wedges for axe handles, drive a few of them in and see if that stops the movement.

Old Guy,

A lot of receivers are closed on the front end so that won't help the slop in the front.
