The city of Seattle has come to their senses - at least until the public stops looking.
The city's Parks & Recreation head enviro-kook was going to ban campfires at the city's two beaches. All in the name of stopping global warming. Fortunately, the blogosphere and talk radio (both conservative and liberal) broadcast the news and got a groundswell movement going to cause the city's elected officials to rethink the idea.
News article from the Seattle Times.
At first I thought it was funny - Banning a dozen or so campfires in the name of saving the globe. And to top it off, the real reason behind it was because the Parks Department wanted to keep the kids off the beach because they thought they were a nuisance.
But then I thought, "Dave, what happens if something like this picked up steam?" I could imagine some enviro-do-gooder calling for the banishment of campfires in campgrounds to save the planet in the name of our children's future or some such nonsense. It all starts off with a couple of isolated instances and then once the camel gets his nose under the edge of the tent, there is no ending it.
If this happens in your area, kick the camel in the nose. Don't wait for someone else to do the job. SHOW UP FOR THE PUBLIC HEARINGS. Let them know that the RVing community is against this.
Most Rvers that I know are all for reasonable conservation, so don't go into a flaming war. I just take umbrage at people that use spurious science, and emotion evoking images, to pass legislation that only serves their own ends.

If it's listed in the Yellow Pages, the government shouldn't be messing around with it.

He was probably right. Not about global warming. But about kids. I was only there once, but I was a kid. And a nuisance...lol.

Rush Limbaugh addressed this Seattle fiasco on the radio today. He suggested that if you want a campfire in Seattle, just burn an American Flag for your fire and they CAN'T make you put it out... haha because some liberal do-gooders made it OK to burn American Flags as an act of Free Speech, that makes it OK to have those kind of fires, and that supercedes the campfire law! Whatever Seattle is doing to stop global warming, it's working in our part of the state! Haven't been higher than the 50's for weeks! In fact, we have a snow advisory for tonight!

Before anything like that happens they need to visit the farm states. Here they burn the ditches, raked up straw and corn stalks in the fields after harvest, burn off CRP land (Government program that takes farm land out of production and pays the farmer to let the weeds grow). Some days it is so smoky you would think there is forest fire - except with don't have a lot of forests in ND.

Hey, the government will go for any whacky idea as long as it doesn't affect the industries (the REAL source of global warming) that pour money into their coffers and campain funds.
Banning gas powered lawnmowers and home BBQs are other whacko ideas that pop up from time to time.

It's just the beginning of ridiculous rules that government types will try to impose on all of us in the name of "Climate Change"**.
**This used to be called "Global Warming" but the cold winter and cool spring made that term seem a little out of sync so "Climate Change" has been substitued so the term can cover anything that deviates from "normal"(whatever that is)

Someone saw the ice was melting and since it has always been frozen with nothing growing there, someone planted plants on the exposed ground and some of those plants were thought to be extinct. Now who did it come on fess up.
