Question for anyone who's moved to FL recently.......

According to FL DMV's website they require vin verification on all used vehicles and trailers over 2,000 lbs that are having their registration transferred into FL.

Does this really mean I have to haul the trailer over to DMV to get the Vin read or is there some other place/way to get this done ?

Do they typically have parking for a 30' LOA trailer and rig at DMV locations ?

I am heading down in a month for good and am trying to work through all the details.

Thanks.

A form obtained from the tax collector will allow you to have an officer or a notary verify VIN's and odometer readings so you don't have to take vehicles to the tax collector's office.

We actually registered our class A in FL, but still had it in PA. We explained our situation to the DMV, they were nice about it but wanted the VIN verification. We ended up having to drive the 40' class A into the PA state police barricks. They thought we were nuts. But after explanation, the police filled out this form for us for "official" verification and FL DMV accepted it, no problem.

So maybe police where ever you are can help you, at your convenience. I forget if it was a downloaded form from their website, I think it may have been.

Don't know for sure if it's applicable to all states, but you usually can call your local police department and request a police officer to come to the vehicle for a 'VIN verification'.

His report he gives you on verification is considered better than any notary, and as good as if you brough the vehicle to dmv.

Took 10 years of schelping vehicles to DMV and sitting and waiting for 8 hours, before a cop told 'me' about this option.

edit: I just noticed you are from Illinois, you're good to go with this one in Illinois. That's where I found out it could be done.

I belive you can have any Florida police officer fill out the form as well. And in my experience many DMV's don't have room to do verification on a 30' trailer. Where in Fl are you moving to.

Thanks all. So if I understand this right all I have to do is commit a traffic infraction while towing and have the officer fill out the vin verification at the same time he's writing up the citation right ?

We will be in the eastern orlando burbs.

I used to live in FL years ago in my youth.

Just take the form with you and speed on down the road -- Pretty soon, an officer will show up to assist you!
