I was curious to see if anyone knows what to do when disposing of deep fryer oil. I put the oil back in its original bottle, now can I dispose of this in the regular garbage or does it need to be to be recycled? Thanks in advance!

Most people I know take it to a local cafe. People are hauling it away for them for free now to make bio diesel

It is Bio - it also makes a mess on the ground. As mikehart noted. If you have no takers, then dumpster. It shouldn't be petroleum based, at least I hope not. Bill
Note: Some Waste removable company's will not handle it. Because of land fill restrictions. You know the source, they will not. Bill

...you could do what river guides do on the last day of a trip and make a fire bomb. Get a really long stick (the longer the better) and attach a small cup to it; fill the cup with water.
In an area that is completely fire-safe, build a hot fire. Take your left-over oil, put it in a bucket, safely place the bucket in the middle of the hot fire; let that cook a little while, drink a beer or a few. Get everyone far away from the fire. Take that long stick with the cup of water on the end of it, hold it over the bucket and dump the water in: kaboom!
Great fire show, oil all gone!

I can see the news now. Improperly disposed frying oils causing secondhand cholesterol in children. National security subcommittees disbanded so that legislation to ban second hand oil can be passed.

1). If using a trailer, it can serve as a lube for the hitch ball.
2). If a diesel pusher, pour it in the tank.
3). Go to your local McDonalds and pour it out near their dumpster. There are usually some barrels of it back there anyway.
4). Makes a good dip for potato chips.

Put it on the wood for the next camp fire. This what we do. Makes your campfire smell like you are cooking fries for everyone and ignition is never a problem when starting the fire.
A fellow camper went one step further. Everytime he used oil for cooking, he poured the leftover fat into ice cube trays and froze them, then put them in a zip lock baggie and back into the freezer. And uses them for 'fire starters'.
