My apologies if this LCD TV subject has been beat to death, but ...
We went "shopping" for a replacement(s) yesterday. Our coach (Holiday Rambler Endeavor 37WDS) is nearing 11 years old ... and so are the original, basic, Quasar CRT's ...
living room = 23", bedroom = 13".
Thinking about 32" or 37" in front. 19" in back.
But here's the confusion. Brands!
LG, Samsung, Sony, Toshiba, Jensen, Sharp, NEC, Hitachi, JVC, Panasonic, Mitsubishi, Westinghouse, blah, blah blah.
I BELIEVE I want to stick with a brand that is tried and true. Not one of those that aren't recognizable ... Sansui, Olevia, etc.
Currently, from what I've seen (and talked to) numerous "salespeople" at places like Circuit City, Best Buy, Wal*Mart, Sam's Club, etc., the Samsung 1080P (not i) seems to have "top marks".
Anybody care to "weigh in" with their opinion/expertise?

Actually, all the brands you mention get good reviews. I bought a 20" HDTV to carry along in my motorhome recently. I researched the various review sites, and bought a Vizio. Never heard of that brand before, but the reviews were outstanding. Now that i have one, I agree.
If you find one that you like, google it for reviews. You'll know right away if owners are happy or unhappy with their TVs. A good place to look for reviews (and to compare pricing) is Amazon.com
Frequently the better non-eBay prices are at Costco or Amazon

I agree with tomlang on the Vizio. The name brands are not all that important anymore, almost everything is made in China. Look at the unit that you want. If the picture is sharp enough then buy it. You won't get a longer warranty on a unit with a brand name.

I purchased a Samsung, and while I like the picture quality, there is a frustrating delay of about 3 seconds when you turn it on before anything happens. Also, time between channels coming up when you're channel surfing is not nearly as fast as I'm used to. Maybe it's a quirk of all LCDs, I don't know. Try surfing in the store before you buy if that is something that is important to you. Good grief, I have to get out more....

I just got a Samsung and my grandparent bought the Vizio. The Samsung has way better picture. I felt bad for them when I saw it last week.

All the brands you mention are well known.. My personal belief is that if you buy an LG and... Well, they used to be just "Goldstar" but they changed their name to LG (Lucky Goldstar) because you are LUCKY if a GOLDSTAR works as advertised (Not one of the goldstar products I have ever had worked right, NOT ONE and when I sold a re-branded goldstar for a while it was the #1 returned under warranty item in the store)
I'd not have a problem with any of the other brands.
Sony tends to be over priced in my not so humble opinion (And the box under this computer is a Sony product) Panasonic (Which is also close by) tends to be UNDER priced again in my opinion

One thing to look for when purchasing a new TV is the location of the speakers. Some have them on the sides, top or bottom instead of the front so you can hear them without the sound be cranked up so loud it disturbs the neighbors.
Retirement: Waking up with nothing to do and going to bed with half of it done.

LGs have nothing to do w/ the long gone Gold Stars, except the same MFG is involved. Some Sonys and Zeinths are relabled LGs, and have very good ratings.
All the LCDs now have good ratings, but some have a little sharper displays than others. You still do get what you pay for as far as picture quality and resolution.

Read Amazon's HARD TO FIND return policy on televisions. It put me off from buying from them.
Costco's is pretty liberal, but in the past year they've put time limits on electronic products. But their policy is RIGHT UP FRONT. You don't have to search for it.

Also, with the size you are buying you don't need 1080P at all, you will not be able to tell the difference on that size of screen, it will be physically impossible for your eyes to see the 1080P detail, save the money and get a 720P, you will not be able to tell the difference at all. EVER no one can. 1080P is not going to make a difference until you are in a much bigger screen size, like 50 inches and above.
