Just saw a Smart car go by and it reminded me of some people who posted with the rear garage setup and the Smart.I was just curious how that's working out.

Got approved for smart car loan online, never did it say what the interest was going to be. I called dealer they said couldn't say as it would take 18 months to get a car. Sure wish it was a American car company that was doing so well.

Interesting car, but why would they be dumb enough to design it to require premium fuel. I was interested until I discovered that.

beleive it or not...The last 3+ years the Smart car has been available in Canada in diesel only. It is the US that forced the company to supply GAS models. They said Diesel would not sell in the US. Great little car. And Bob you can buy them off the lot here

I'm regularly getting 37-39 mpg in my 4 door 5 speed yaris. You can get a hatchback for around 11K. Smart cars cost how much again? 18K?

38 years for the smart car to save you gas money over the Yaris and there are Toyota dealers everywhere.

An co-worker of my wife's just traded in a smart car after having a disastrous 2 years with it. Purchasing the smart car was not a smart decision on his part as it was unreliable/costly and uncomfortable and he lost a lot at trade time. He traded it for a Canadian built Toyota.

That may be the case in Quebec, but here in Ontario I've only ever seen a few smarts in deisel, most of the ones I've seen were gas. Only been in one once and I felt a bit cramped (I drive a rather large service van for a living) but was surprised of the "power" off the light. Neat little car, very heavy for its size cause of the steel roll cage. Never heard of the US forcing the gas issue, but again I'm in Ontario.

You can import them Europe in Gas and LHD for less than $8000 used. They are very overpriced but 'cute' - something a Yaris will never be, but the Yaris does make a lot more economic sense.

They can be uncomfortable unless you learn how to handle the auto transmission - it's auto WITHOUT a torque convertor - so shifts are quite hard unless you can play the gas pedal.

Premium fuel is because it's a lot of power from a turbocharged 700cc engine - but it only sips it at 50mpg
