Kind of a dumb question here but, what do you all do about lubricating between the pin box on the trailer and the top of hitch? I've looked at those plastic round disc that you use for greasing the hitch but, I don't understand how in the heck it works.

Grease is messy and you need to keep applying, the disk works great. Our hitch called for a 12" disk and we had to order one that size but it works.

We do lube the king pin and the jaw area on the hitch.

The plastic disc actually is the lubrication. I put one on before I towed the 5er home from the dealer. Works great for me....if there's grease somewhere I usually have it all over me. Now no more grease except for on the jaws of the hitch.

The plastic is slick and reduces friction between the two surfaces. It eliminates the need for grease in that area. It does not eliminate the need for grease on the pin itself.

I just use the lube plate and dry lube on the jaws.

Instead of metal on metal, and the attendent problems with rust etc., you have steel on plastic in a sandwich. The disc acts as a sacrificial member and slides relativel smoothly on the two steel surfaces. The disc will eventually wear out and need to be replaced.
