Just curious. We purchased our 96 suncruiser about a month or more ago, and so far we have replaced the VHS player with a DVD player, the windshield wipers, had the carbuerator rebuilt on the generator, have paid to have the oil changed and then hubby changed it himself (after 2000 plus miles) then we had the rear A/C replaced, and replaced a water filter too. Fortunately we got a wonderful deal on it and figured we would have to put some money into it before we purchased. I think my hubby loves the thing, he has been working on the RV just about every day it has been parked in the driveway!

Welcome to the message boards.
A used RV is not something to buy if you don't like to tinker. I bought a 94 Winnebago and had the same deal. I bought it off of Ebay, it was very clean and low mileage but not up to snuff maintenance wise. I put about $3,000.00 into it since I bought it but now it is up to my standards safety and looks wise.

Having all the maintenance caught up, I spemt the last 2 nights waging it. I keep mine in the driveway also. I have found the people on these message boards will bend over backwards to help if you post what you are working on. It's always something.

Enjoy the motorhome!

If I tried to list everything we ended up fixing on our last used unit we'd run out of bandwidth. That one made us decide maybe "new" wasn't so expensive. We're currently on our 3rd new one and have been extremely satisfied.

Would we ever buy used again? Probably.

A year and a half ago, I bought a (well) used 94 DP. It had 102k miles on it so I expected some "issues". I now have about 4 PAGES of things that I have fixed/repaired/replaced since I got it. It turned out to be a bit more than I expected, but in the end is still a good RV. I'm REALLY glad I like to do these kinds of things myself (like your DH, apparently), else I'd be BROKE by now.
Some of the things I fixed...
Outside faucet was broken ( no doubt frozen and cracked )
Pocket doors would not slide correctly - turned out that they were delaminated and took MANY hours to fix properly.
Carpet that I thought could be cleaned, could NOT - so ended up replacing with laminate wood flooring.
Everything else that I thought was "just dirty", turned out to be FILTHY FILTHY and almost uncleanable. I spent about 4 full WEEKS cleaning things that I initially figured would take me a couple of days.
Rear view camera was fubar - had to replace both camera and monitor (and spent 2 DAYS running down the wiring between them).
Leveling jacks pump was loose on mount - it quit and I finally found the real problem with the mounting bolts.
Batteries were all (3) toast- replaced with (2) new golf cart units.
Gen wouldn't start when cold ... finally found that 12v line to glow plugs was 'roasted' and not making connection (after about 20 hours of work in other areas).
'Under' floor was rusted out beneath one side of shower. Water was (S L O W L Y) leaking out at the bottom of the shower glass.
And I could go on for MANY hours .. but am still relatively happy with the purchase ... that is, if diesel fuel prices would drop a bit...

Wow, where to start?
First thing we did was replace all of the tires
install a 1750 Watt inverter
Replace the floor covering, and trim (made my own with a router)
rebuild the dinette using oak plywood. Put shelves and drawers in the cupboards.
Modified the dog house (engine cover) so there is leg room between it and the passenger seat (this also made more room between it and the driver seat) moved the passenger seat back to make even more room. (my wife is handicapped, extra room is required).
Replace the 12V house batteries with golf cart batteries
Had the transmission serviced
Had a blown spark plug thread repaired, new plugs and a damaged coil replaced and since we were 1300 miles from home I had the works done, tune up, MAF cleaned and filters replaced etc.
Other work I've done myself, many small modifications for our convenience.
Cleaned the fan on the furnace, now it works when the temperature is below freezing. Oh! yah the water heater the pressure relief valve and that's another story. The anode rod looked a bit crusty so I replaced it also.
Would I buy used again, definitely, unless I won the lotto, then I'd have money to waste.
Cheers

Ah! forgot, had the rear brake pads replaced and will have the front brake pads replaced this fall

We, too, have a pretty lengthly list. I suspect ours was sold off by the previous owner because of some of the problems. It took me 3 years to finally fix the speedometer. The dash A/C was the next most expensive repair and was back in 3 times before I fixed that myself. Having owned it now 4 years, it is difficult to say what was an original problem at the time we bought and what has broken recently. The "eyebrow" board in the Norcold 'fridge, the step controller, the board in the water heater all all on the "broken recently" list. We probably wore out the fan in the heater from use. I've replaced all 4 batteries and am now troubleshooting an intermittent chassis battery drain. The fun just never stops!

Ours was "lightly" used, so has fared better perhaps that other used units.

We've repaired simple things like the shower door coming off the mounts, tire fill extensions on the inside tires, loose bolts bolts and screws, one breaker, a fuse in the refrigerator and that's it.

I have bought two used Holiday Ramblers and never had to fix anything. Bought a new Colorado in 03 and have been repairing it ever since.
