Is anyone changing travel plans or staying closer to home now that we have $4.00 per gallon for gas and worse for diesel. Last year I know we spent $650.00 traveling from Tulsa, to Vail and Back. Gas then was less than $3.00 per.

Just look at you log book over the years!!! Most of us use between 500 and 1000 gals. of fuel a year!! Why did we work all our lives let the kids get what is left!! The savings using the rv are better than the motel or the airplane. If you die tomorrow at least you did that one trip and spent 650 just my 2 cents good luck rvtommy

We are currently on our biggest RV trip. From So. Calif to Portland, Or.--thru Idaho and Utah--where we are currently--than probably to Lake Tahoe and than South. My wife has just retired--the trip has been in the makings for a while and the big oil co's are not going to control our plans for our retired life. During our trip we met some RV'ERS from Holland--they had a rental and they thought our fuel was really cheap--in Holland it is $10-$11/gallon. Happy Travels, Lars

Ironically, I thought this post was going to be about a black water tank problem ....wrong tank
I think everyone has made some changes due to fuel prices.....some more than others of course. As mentioned above, it still becomes a matter of choice....and I choose to continue to RV....with trips closer to home. I'll blow the money either way....going to movies or home projects, if I stay home, so I might as well go on an adventure.
The plan is, to save enough for that longer trip later on. We know that the only real change between now and last year, will be the price of gas....so we adjust accordingly. An extra $2-300 shouldn't cause us to avoid a trip....maybe one less day at a "theme park", to spend the day at a lake or the beach.

We were going to South Dakota and have trimed it down to the west coast so we will go up to Idaho and see what that state has in history, and parks.

good one!
Nope not here. It does however make me take note when buying something I really don't need. But then again that is something I should have learnt long before the price of fuel went up.

What's nasty about this topic?
Those of you who kept voting for the liberals who have since prevented us from drilling for resources and estabilshing odious restrictions on building refineries should look in the mirror and thank yourself for the current situation. Sure drilling now will not see any effect at all on pricing for another ten years. Handy arguement. But the point is if we'd drilled ten years ago we'd not be in this situation. Have a few less raindeer probably though.

Dittos to Chuck S.
Read Al Gore's book. High gas prices are exactly what the extreme left have wanted for decades as a way to control and punish.
Thanks to 30 years of tolerating liberal politically-correct folly we've not touched nor developed a smidgen of our vast national resources. NO other country on earth denies its own citizens; its own resources.
We've built hundreds of enthanol plants for a product no-one wants despite being heavily subsidized, but not a single oil refinery.
China will be drilling in the Gulf of Mexico before the United States.
Therefore we have 1978 production thanks to artifically reduced supply and 2008 global demand. Shazaam, prices rise. High prices were predictable and inevitable.
"Big American OIL companies" are small fry on the global market and produce annual returns far smaller than many other fortune 500 companies.
Drill here, drill now. Let the markets work.
