We carried our 07 Cherokee 285b+ out a couple of weeks ago for the second time. Wife wanted the water heater on to wash dishes. It has a switch by the front door to turn in on gas, but I can't find the switch for electric. We were @ a camp ground and didn't really want to use gas. I looked on the heater (under sink) and the owners man is no help! Any ideas where it might be? Tech did a walk around with me, but I forget.

Remove the water heater vent/cover on the outside and there will probably be a small black toggle switch marked on/off. Just be sure to turn it off when your water heater is not full of water and you have power going to the heater.

Usually the electric feeds from the distribution breaker panel to the water heater. Check the distribution breaker panel for one marked water heater. Should be a 15 amp.

I looked there also because I "thought" thats where it was. But I was also fighting a wasp. I'm gonna grab my flashlight and take another look!

Thanks PaulandTammy, I found it! It is in the outside access cover. A small black on/off rocker switch in the lower left hand corner, beside a warning not to turn on without water in HW tank. Gotta get down pretty low to see it. Thanks to all.........

Wow you carried your 5er to a campground? That had to be rough! We always tow ours when we go somewhere. Any way our electric to gas switch is inside the rig on the AC/HEAT/Water Tank control panel. Real easy that way.

On Atwood water heaters both of the switches are normally inside. On Suburban water heaters the 110v electric switch is outside behind the cover. Suburban places the switch in a remote location to keep folks from accidently burning-out the heating element by forgetting to fill the tank with water first.

Thanks for educating me on the reason why they put this switch on the OUTSIDE, where it is hard to locate and use. I wish they had put it INSIDE and let me take my chances with burning out the element due to my own ignorance!

Actually, it is the manufacturer of the RV that decides whether or not to include an inside switch.
My previous TT had a Suburban with an inside switch for the electric feature. My current TT w/Suburban does not.
I have also seen many Atwoods with just the switch on the water heater and none on the wall. It's all up to how the manufacturer builds and with what features.

On my Cougar I have to throw the breaker in the main panel to turn off the electric element. I leave if off except when we are hooked to 110 and we want hot water. Didn't know about it until I got hot water when I began installing an accumulator tank.
