Just looking for opinions. We will be towing the 5er in our Sig soon down to FW @ Disney and have done it before. We are going local roads to I-84, 81, 77. 26. 95, I-4. Have done the route thru Hartford several times and it annoys me each time. Some of the Routing programs(AAA, Google, MS Streets & Trips) want to take me 15 to 91S to 691 back to 84. Time isn't an issue, we will be going thru between 8-9am on a Sunday, but I was wondering if people that have done both routes prefer one over the other.

Thanks for the input

Going through on 84 on Sunday am should be no problem. As an alt. route to get around Hartford, I would rate 91/691 as about 14.5 minutes of white knuckles versus 15 minutes on 84. My trick to going through on 84 is to get in the center lane well in advance, set my own pace and go straight ahead...the heck with the rest of the world. No lane shifts or squeeze plays. Don't even need to read the signs. Much easier since I figured that out.

No problem with Hartford. Just stay in the center lane on the west side of Hartford. Bridges alternate being low on the right and left lanes.

That is how I usually do it but didn't know if the 91/691 route was easier, hearing from the group, I am better off staying on 84.

Thanks

Not sure but isn't 15 the Merrit Parkway? If so they have some low (or at least appears to me)slung overpasses especailly in the right lane. Never gone 15 in the M/H. Have driven it many times in a car however years ago an usally hoped off around New Haven on 34 to catch 95 enroute to Newport RI.

As said grab the middle lane for Hartford and you will be fine.

I will be traveling on that route next friday, and always get into the middle lane. It is the only way to keep out of trouble, until you are traveling at the speed of all the other traffic, and then someone tries to pass you on the right hand "slow traffic lane" and cuts you off at the merge. Be very carefull going through Hartford. We travel from the Atlanta area to northern NH , and this is the worst part of the trip.

If you feel uncomfortable about Hartford, you can take rt 2 on the east side of Htfd to rt 3..all 4 lane hwy..to 91 south to 691 to 84......I feel this route is much quicker as it by-passes Htfd altogether..the trip on rt 2&3 is probably less than 15 minutes total, yet you miss ALL of it...Chuck..have a great trip

I just used that route going from RI to Fort Wilderness. It added about 12o miles over the I-95 route, but was a much better drive. We went through Hartford in I-84 during mid morning on a Wednesday and just stayed in the center lane...no problems. Only other traffic on the whole trip was in Orlando.

Using same route on return trip.

Have a safe and fun trip0

As said, Middle lane is best. seems to be a great deal of right and left exits and merges. Confuses me without camper on board. Sunday am, stay on 84---middle lane, not worth any other routes. May get tight and crowded. Care about "numero uno"...you, and you should be fine. 15 becomes the Merick Parkway and low bridges. stay away. have taken 84 to 691 to 91 several time bu have stayed on 91. Not sure if Sunday morning would make a difference. I vote for 84....take is slow, play some tunes on the radio, and tune out the world!!!! Safe travels!!!!
