When we first began camping in the 80's KOA name meant that there were some standards that must be met in order to display the emblem. You could count on a decent campsite and good facilities. Over the years, many owners have abandoned their franchises to save expenses. As a result, KOA has been less stringent in the enforcement of standards to keep franchises on board. The result has been a gradual deterioration of the existing facilities and no new franchises added.
Why would you build a campground today and pay KOA to display their name when they are getting nothing but bad press, as in this thread? Don't believe I've seen a new KOA in years and the existing ones will only get worse.

Personally, I hate KOA and their whole concept. Might was well park at Wal*Mart. Free, safe, and not a lot different IMO.
There are thousands of great places to park an RV overnight. KOA's are not amongst them.
I know all sorts of great free places to overnight in the Jackson area and north, between the parks. Of course, there are no hookups. But then there are no people either.

We don't have the negative opinions of all KOAs that so many others do, but the Snake River KOA is one of the poorer ones we've stayed at. As far as the price goes, it's already been pointed out, everything in & around Jackson is expensive. There is not much competition for CGs in that area either, as there is only a handful of CGs with hookups. Sorry your experience there was so bad, but don't expect all KOAs to be that bad.

With all the negative comments about KOAs (to which I could easily add), I see very few positive ones. Rather referring to the Jackson KOA as being one bad apple in the bunch, it seems that there are a few decent apples falling from an infected tree.
We'll drive thru the night rather than stay at a KOA.

I think KOA-bashers have radar - and love to post in threads regarding KOAs. But to each his own. We've been satisfied - and occasionally pleasantly surprised - by most KOAs we've been to, and that's quite a few.

No surprise there. Every KOA we've stayed at has had small, narrow, unlevel sites and has charged us a lot more than we thought the place was worth. OTOH, the reason we're staying there is that it's right off the highway and there's nothing else convenient in the immediate area, so we tolerate it for one night.

You should not have paid the $70+ bills, and just said no thanks and got back on the road. We used to do that when we were back east and camped in the Pocano Mt. areas. There were always plenty of campgrounds to choose from.
I stayed at a KOA once years ago. Never again but that was just our personal decision.
