I use eight ply softer than a pillow on my ass. As long as its septic safe you're good. And the GEO method or some form of it is the way to go. A bit of water softener and some 99 cent store laundry soap and you're bueno..

If you insist on buying something, I'd vote for a dry material. The liquid fell over enroute once, leaked out and deodorized a lot more than the holding tank!
Actually a strong minty-fresh odor was a bit too much to handle and fortunately we were in a warm location where the windows stayed open for a few days!
For me, for the past few years, I've been using the chemical dihydrogen monoxide, which is coverd by your camping fee at many campgrounds.

There are the packets of blue stuff and the yellow stuff. Little bubble like things that you toss into the toilet. The blue stinks. The yellow doesn't.

StanleyandIris,
Thanks for the explanation of "blue stuff" that many mentioned. i was clueless! I have seen these little packets at Walmart but don't recall seeing the yellow. I will have to go back and check for those...also looking into the Geo Method and other suggestions offered by other members. Thanks again!

Switched to Geo and no odors or clogs. All guages work, even black tank after 2.5 years! Saves money and beter for environment too. Never used the so called "Geo method" and after 51 years of RV'ing I can say I've never had a tank problem either. I always use the blue stuff that has formaldahyde in it since most of what you buy now breaks down into formaldahyde anyway.

We just use water. No GEO and no chemicals. Isn't GEO a car? How do you fit that down through that small hole?
We dump dishwater down the toilet when boondocking so I guess we do use dish soap occasionally.

I did check out the Scott's 1,000 tp for septic systems today while doing some grocery shopping at Walmart. It looks awfully thin and didn't feel very soft when I squeezed it. I suppose I could stand it for long weekends but I can't say I would ever put it in my house. Ouch! Economically speaking, I think we will go with the blue stuff for now rather than the Geo method or other things suggested...although I appreciated all the input. I can't fathom using just water with three kids under the age of 9...two are boys. Their bathroom here at the house stinks no matter how often I clean it. Ick!
