We will be heading out to Carlsbad by way of I-20 which road would be better to travel?
1) I-20 to Sweetwater, then US 84 to US 180, and US 180 to Carlsbad
2) I-20 to Odessa, then US 385 to US 180, and US 180 to Carlsbad
3) I-20 to Pecos, then US 285 to Carlsbad
Thanks for the info, we will be driving a 34 ft coachman with Jeep in tow.

Christmas time 2006 we went the other way. We spent a night at Monhian's State Park (Texas) lots of sand dunes, then to Pecos, filled up @ Flying J then to Carlsbad. Wide open empty road.

Where did you stay while at Carlsbad, AAA campbook list 3 sites (2 are north of Carlsbad, the other in the town. While searching the net, I found this Whites City Rv Park, not listed in AAA. Anyone know anything about this one?

Whites is right outside Carlsbad, I've been by it a number of times but never stayed there. It reminded me of Ruby's outside Bryce, a very touristy site if you know what I mean.
I don't know of any good CG near Carlsbad we always end up staying quite away off but never found any especially good site.

I'm sorry to say, but Whites City is a dump. For an entrance to a National Park, it would be nice to have a better looking turn off. We stayed at Carlsbad RV park on the South side of town, and were quite satisfied. It is an old KOA (I beleive) that while not big and new,is nice and friendly. We came from El Paso, so can't help on your route.

I agree with the previous poster - we really liked the Carlsbad RV Park. Great people, and lots of little things like a rose garden to brighten your day. We had a fantastic potluck supper there, too.
