I am shopping for a tv and would like a diesel dodge 2500 or 3500. I have seen one with a lift kit and was wondering if this makes for poorer towing performance. Does anyone know the effect lifitng a truck has on towing?

I was born with nothing and I still have some left.

Lifted trucks normally have larger tiers. Larger tires can reduce the trucks ability to tow heavy loads. Lifted trucks must also push through more air and thus have greater drag.
How much lager than stock is the tire size? A size or two is no big deal if it has 38's or 40's it may not tow well.

Negative affect on handling. If pulling a 5er lotsa luck getting level. I would not be interested in a lifted truck.

2003 Jayco 308fbs eagle 33' tt, towed by a 2003 Ram 3500 slt, quad cab dually, cummins diesel ho, trailer towing package, with 6 speed manual. Hauls better 1/2, 3 kids, myself, and a 2003 ez go clays car.. I have added so far, neon lights, clearance lights, back up lights, black light, lift kit, mud tires, and everything necessary to make the golf cart street legal. It's now ready to spend the winter in the garage for more mods. More neon, strobe lights, alarm, a pa system, maintance, and whatever else that comes along. This golf cart does wheelies and travels thru 7 inches of mud when need be. Two honda eu2000i gens twinned to supply the electrical power. Latest addition an 04 Honda Goldwing. Rule of thumb.....

The higher you go, the more negative the safety and negative experience will become.

I would not use a truck modified with a lift to tow an rv. I also would not buy a truck that has had a lift kit installed. The larger diameter heavy tires and rims put a lot of stress on the driveline, especially wheel bearings, ball joints, etc. Center of gravity raised can make for an unstable platform to use for towing. One of the dumbest things I did in my twenties(so long ago) was take a fantastic truck, a F-250 big block fun truck and add an 8-inch lift kit and TSL Super Swampers along with the needed ring and pinion gear change out. The lift was installed by a professional shop, but I never had the stability the truck once had. I lost fuel mileage, handling, and had to install a much more powerful stereo, those tires sure howled at highway speeds.

No to lifted trucks IMHO for towing RV,s especially if it is a 5th wheel. How are you going to get the RV level while towing with a lifted truck? How is your RV going to clear the bed of the truck if it is a 5th wheel?

I am also in the market for a used truck. I have contacted several dealers and two of my requirements are no lift kits and no big tires. It ruins a truck. It also indicates the mindset of the previous owner. It may have suffered abuse and may have other poor quality modifications you are unaware of.

Like stated more than once before, if you buy a truck that has mods hung on it, you better be good at shooting crasps. Even the loud exhsust. I cn believe how the go fasters just trounce on the gas to get the noisy pickups to shift down and make more noise.

Also why in the world would you want to raise the center of grasvity on a tow vehicle. So then you mod the camper to set up high so it will match the truck and along comes s mouse and passes gas and blows the whole rig over.

This done all the time. I have been living in a Koa for two months and the rigs I see are amazing. Mild to wild I have seen it all.

I added a leveling kit on my last TV and absolutely hated it. It changes everything. It was only 2" but it was like owning a different truck. I learned my lesson and have stuck with the engineers designs.

lastly I don't know if you could find e rated tires for 40's?

In addition to the negative things mentioned (all true), the higher
drive line angles of a suspension lift reduces power delivered to the
pavement.

Breakage of drive line components is also a concern. Not instantly, but
sooner than if left alone.

Marry less power delivered by higher drive line angles with reduced
effective diff ratios, and you have a poor TV.

You can make up for 'some' of it by chipping/modifying the engine and/or
change the diff gear set, but why spend all that money just for the
sake of a 'fashion statement'? Then the safety issues with a higher CG
and that you'll never really make up all the power lost....then the
reduced reliability of it all...
