If they sell Buick, then what would happen to any new replacement parts or any kind of warranty work, recalls, etc? *gulp* I just bought an '06 Buick Lacrosse because I figured that i'd be safe with the buick name for Years to come. I think GM would regret selling Buick and Pontiac.

The only person under 40 years old driving a Buick is Tiger Woods because they pay him millions to do so.

Interesting...I'm sure GMC is in there with Chevy and Cadillac. Why would they sell or who would want to buy a division who's intials are General Motors Corporation? And seeing how the are all made on the same lines as Chevys.

This speaks to a point I've made in many conversations: Why on earth do US auto manufacturers insist on maintaining makes and models with nearly identical features?

Daimler Chrysler in recent years killed off Plymouth for that very reason. Why have the Plymouth Voyager, Dodge Grand Caravan, and Chrysler Town & Country when they are the exact same vehicle with slightly different trim, bells, and whistles? It didn't make sense because the 3 brands competed against each other. The same was true of Oldsmobile vs Buick. That's one of the reasons Olds is gone, too much feature overlap.

While I don't like to see US jobs disappear, the manufactures need to take a long hard look at where they are beating themselves up and eliminate those conflicts. For example, why on earth does GM still make Chevy and GMC trucks Yes they vary slightly in appearance and features, but mechanically they are the exact same truck. The same holds true for Ford and Mercury SUV's and cars.

Buyers want choice, but they also want value. Make one vehicle, give it multiple options, and eliminate the fat.

Well Chrysler learned and GMC hasn't yet. Ford's next on the slow education curve. Maybe if they hadn't thumbed their noses at Mr. Kiichiro Toyoda, they'd be on top instead of Toyota and Honda. Ole Henry Ford said you can have any colour as long as it's black!

Whatever GM does - they need to consider the moves carefully. It's easy to say that they should eliminate the GMC nameplate since they are duplicates of Chevy. Trouble is - GMC has been the number 2 selling GM brand for a number of years.
The decision may not be that easy when looked at from that view!!!

I'm sure oldsmobile people thought the same thing. There are definately too many identical models. I would hate to see it since chevrolet doesn't have the nads to make a sporty ride. At least one that will challenge the all mighty corvette.

I have no idea who would buy any of those lines, but I can see them being eliminated from GM in the future.

The Hummer suv as we know it on the roads today is a rediculus vehicle to begin with. It's huge on the outside but tiny on the inside. Very heavy but has hardly any carrying ability. Uses alot of gas but can only tow a bumper pull trailer. Has 4wd and looks like a real off road vehicle but really has no more off road capability than any other full size pickup or suv.

It is all about image and nothing about usability. It is the quintessential 'Poser' vehicle. I've always despised them for that reason. It is a shame that the real military HummVee was forced to lend it's name and reputation to this rediculus poor excuse for a vehicle, Hummer. I'll be glad to see it buried for good.

I also agree, the Hummer is a vehicle that shouldn't of been built.

I bought an '07 Buick LaCrosse (Allure) last year. I had an Olds Cutlass Supreme before that. Parts were easy to get on the Olds, in 2007 even though the plug was pulled in 2003.

Buick sales being 21 % down this year...isn't a good sign and they only have three lines, the LaCrosse-Allure, the Lucerne and the SUV Enclave.

I can't really figure out why they have two sedans (LaCrosse and Lucerne) when there is not much difference in size...just an inch here, a couple of inches (5, i think) in length.

They both use the Buick 3800 V6, then have V8 options.

GM has never made any sense with all their duplicate, triplicate, quadruplicate, etc cars. I agree that eliminating Buick, Pontiac and GMC and just having Chevy and Caddy would be the wisest thing GM could do. Ok, second wisest... First wisest is to get rid of that rediculus Hummer!
