First I assume you are in Iraq serving our country. If that is the case my family and I also THANK YOU very much for your service!!!
The gas prices have caused us to start staying at more state parks as they are much cheaper and we decided to only do one long trip a year then some other shorter ones. We also just cut back on some other unnecessary things like going out to dinner, etc. to help out with the gas increase. I also am reviewing all my auto/rv insurance policies and things like that to compare and see if I can get better rates from other companies.
Take care and have fun looking for an RV. I loved that part!!!

Both my DW and myself work fulltime and vacation time is of more value than anything. Do we like the higher fuel prices? Of course not. Does it have any real effect on our vacation plans? NO.

Jim, I missed the part about you being in Iraq so you wouldn't have know that this exact same subject is posted almost every day.
Sorry I jumped the gun on you.
Hope you stay safe and are able to have some wonderful RVing adventures when you return.

To all: First, Sorry, I was not trying to beat the dead horse, I know there is one forum with a sticky that is 68 pages long, so sorry if that offends. Just enjoy chatting with those who have the experience to kinda see what and how others do things.
I do like the idea of staying at the state parks, When we rented a class c, we went to Lake Havasu, and stayed in an rv park, which was right next to a state park, if we had known how much cheaper the state park was, we would have stayed there.
That is what I like about these forums, I can find out what works best, and learn from others experiences, although I am sure I will still run across a lot of issues that others have experienced.

jimroach wrote: Had a close call the other day, The DW's uncle told her how much gas was costing in the states(currently both in Iraq) as we were researching to buy a toy hauler(towing questions for someone looking to buy). SO for a bit there it was 'heck no, we can't afford gas, so we would never use it. We we are still looking and found some smaller, lighter trailers that she loves now, so the search and re-search continues.
But this made me think......how is this affecting all those great people who provided me guidance before?
Has the current price of gas hindered how much you use your RV?
I explained to the better half that what we pay extra in gas we would make up in savings from not having to get hotels and eat out three meals a day.
So how about it? looking to hear from you all
Jim Jim,
You can spend as much or as little as you want to camping. An economy car outfit with a bicycle rack, a pup tent, sleeping bags/air matresses, and a cooler/lantern/cook stove, dishes/utensils and flashlights are all some of us need to hit the road in a camping lifestyle. Some are now not able to afford anything but making the payments on their elaborate RVs, and even then won't give them up. No, the recreational lifestyle is not dead.......depending on your personal budget.
I have a sweet tender nature, however I enjoy sharing my thoughts and opinions.

In 1960 I took my little cycle and left with three other friends on a motorcycles trip. Rv. trip. We slept out every night in sleeping bags but three nights when we stayed with relatives. We put on 2900 miles, spend less than twenty dollars on gas. Ate food we bought in food stores and fixed it along the side road. WE were gone two weeks. I even slept one night on a picket table in Wall S.D. We can do what we need to do if we want it that bad.

We're sticking a little closer to home on the weekend trips, just to keep the costs down, now that gas has become the most expensive part of the weekend.
But we're still planning the bigger trips the same as before, just budgeting in a little more for fuel. Might cut back on the steaks or frivolous things to stay in budget.
I don't have any expectations that it's going to get any cheaper in the long run. I'd rather lug the thing now on my trips now at $4 a gallon than sit around wishing I had once it hits $8 a gallon.

Nope, but the diesel prices are!! About 70¢/gallon more than gas right now, but I only need about 100 gallons to fill up. Waiting for our "economic Incentive check to get her, got the IRS notice today so it shouldn't be more than 6 weeks more!

Skid Row Joe wrote: Some are now not able to afford anything but making the payments on their elaborate RVs, and even then won't give them up. Why should we? It's a LIFESTYLE! Besides the "carbon print" is smaller in the MH than in the stick house. Use less fuel than when working, less electricity, way less water, less sewage,no running the 3 ton air con, etc. No gas for the mower, leaf blower, chipper etc. Only need one car, not two, and the MH get's more than 50% of the mileage my Jeep gets even when towing. Jeep is 14.1 and MH is around 8 when towing. Don't need to drive to work and back (when we actually retire!) I retired 10½ years ago, wife can retire on the 8th of August. Probably won't due to medical ins cost and not old enough for medicare.
Most people that don't RV enough don't realize how much less an RV're uses.
