IIRC the F450 pickup wasn't planned to sell like the other SD's. It came out due to Ford seeing how many people were buying chassis cab F450's and paying aftermarket companies to install beds on them for dual use. They wanted a piece of the market and IIRC were the first manufacturer to offer a truck like the F450 with a manufacturer installed bed and all the luxury trimmings.

BTW....that is one of the funniest commercials I've ever seen. When that one guy is like: "Make it say we offer, Oh, I don't know...1000 channels in HD..." I almost fall off the couch every time.
I even rewind the commercial and call my wife in to see it. She thinks I'm dumb. But, my goodness, I laugh everytime.
Sorry for the hi-jack. I liked Bardram's quote. Well done!!
Happy trails!!

Having parked my '07 F150 CC long box 4x4 next to my neighbours new '08 SD F250 CC LB 4x4 there is NO comparison between these trucks! Sorry but it just plain dwarfs my F150 - I know my truck feels very small next to it and I have truck envy every time I see it
The SD's will survive as the work trucks they are. Can't imagine anyone up here snowplowing without them.

That's a REALLY honest opinion from an owner of a 150. I wanted to add, I owned 2 150's prior to my 250. The only reason I got into the 250 was for plowing.
That being said, the 150's were 2 of the best trucks I ever owned. Very capable, far exceeding my towing needs. I just didn't quite feel right about putting a plow on either of them, so I went with my gut and got the 250.
After 4 seasons of pushing, I couldn't imagine putting my 150's thru the work that my current truck does.

Not quite. Ford's two V8 are closer to 20mpg. The 4.6 does lower 20s and the 5.4 high teens. Even the V10 does better than 13.
You must be thinking of the Hemi (pre MDS) or GM's big 8.1L V8 or the older 6.0L...

18 mpg empty, 11 mpg towing.

I know of ZERO full sized V8 Gas trucks that get anywhere close to 20 in all around driving. Maybe driving 60 in the flatlands they might, but forget it for normal commuting. Anybody who says otherwise, is dreaming. The 13 quoted above is more like it.

Agreed.
I used to drive a 4.6L F150 on a daily basis at a previous job. 20 mpg in that underpowered truck absolutely NEVER happened. The fuel mileage in that truck was only slightly better than my 5.9L 360 Ram which gets 14 mpg highway. It has been posted and linked over and over that the Hemi(even without the MDS), the GM 6.0L and the Ford 5.4L engines all return nearly the same fuel mileage. Ford has no advantage in this category whatsoever.

I can constantly pull close to 19mpg in combined driving. Most is hyway and secondary hyway driving at 90kmh/55mpg tops with light throttle and E10 regular fuel. You have to be gentle on the throttle and let it get into OD as soon as possible. I know there is a lot of talk that the 5.4L can't get out of it's own way but if I don't watch it I can easily exceed the posted or pull off the line with the tires squeeling. It is a very capable truck.

Highway driving, smaller displacement and with 3.51 gears perhaps. The high teens for a 5.4L has to be highway.
