What is the best way to pre cool the firdge with something in it or it empty? Would putting a block of ice in it help it to cool quicker? The firdge has to be started on propane as its at a storage yard and no electricity. Also is starting it the night before on propane good enough time to cool it? Thanks

It takes most RV refer's at least 8 hours to stabilize. Putting cold objects in will improve this somewhat.

Be advised that the fridge needs 12V power even when running on LP gas. This is to operate the ignitor and the electronics. So while in storage you'll need to make sure your battery is up. It's not a big draw but could contribute to a dead battery condition....

I have found just start it the night before you leave. Brings it up to a safe temperature to put food in it the next day when you leave.
Propane cools the fridge at the same rate as electric.
The block of ice idea....the ice would melt before the fridge ever reached the correct frig temperature which is only to keep foods cool not frozen.
I've seen some people just throw the food in and THEN start the Fridge!IMHO putting food in an RV fridge and THEN starting it, is a future bathroom accident just waiting to happen.
Turn it on the night before and you will be good to go. Happy Camping!

I never even thought of that, thanks!
As for the block of ice i was thinking of it for the freezer maybe it would speed it up?
How much power does the fridge atually take up? I know you will need the iginiter to light it, but after that isnit it just the little yellow lights on the top of the fridge thats sucking power?
Also how much power does the little light on the propane dector take? It cant be that much is it? Would it kill a battery in a week or so, what do you think?
Thanks again for all the quick responses.
Also i read somewhere on here it helps to have stuff in the fridge while starting it up, would it help to load up some water or pop?

A little $10 fan in the fridge from an RV supply store works great and cuts my cool down time to about 4 hours. It runs on 2 "D" batteries of which I use the rechargeable type. Just swap them out for recharged ones then recharge the old ones for next time while camping.

Been using blue ice packs for 15-20 years to precool and they work great.

...we do something similar; we freeze a two-gallon water bottle with the cap off, put the cap on when it's frozen, stick that in the freezer, and the temp will drop to the high 30s in about 4 hours and stay that way until we drive to and set up camp.
