Same thing. Not to long ago, it was either the coach manufacturers or RIVA came up with the "Type" thing. Never did catch on. FMCA used it for awhile but dropped it.

F152554 here. We have been members since the early 90's. It has been ABSOLUTELY worth every penny since we joined. We have been to many regional and National rallyes and have made friends from all over the US, as a direct result of going to these gatherings. At our last National in Redmond, OR last Summer, I had several manufacturer's mechanics work on my, then new coach for free. That service alone was worth the price of admission. Lot's of great evening entertainment, lots of vendors with displays of Motorhome related products. Did I mention I read the magazine cover to cover every month. Oh yes, Join now, get your number and join the fun. Of course if you bought a RV to make only weekend trips to the lake and your hobby is fishing or hunting or such, with little or no interest in the motorhome as a hobby/love, don't join, use your $35 for a fishing/hunting license and have your fun that way. No slur intended to hunters and Fishermen, membership in any group of like minded individuals depends on your interests, mine tend to motorhomes. Hope I can keep doing it till I can't keep doing it, then I might take up sky-diving or bungee jumping or whatever. Till then I'll gladly pay the small yearly fee and thank The Almighty that there are still so many nice people willing to give of their time to help others, like the wonderful people I have met through FMCA. Think about how many hours of willingly given Volunteer hours must go into arranging and pulling off a National or regional Rally for several thousand people from all over the country. They do it every year with the help of 100's of volunteers from the rank and file membership and most folks have a great time. I know we do. Gas prices will probably make us go only to rallys in our region, and I hope the manufacturers can continue to kick in with their product displays and support for all of us. Also, in your travels, your never really alone on the road, there are members all over this great Nation who will willingly do what it takes to help you along the way. Check out the website, FMCA.com, see what we stand for, then come join the fun.

Quite the contrary, if you check the July 2008 issue of Family Motor Coaching, on page 76, the article describes several examples of "TYPE" situations. FMCA has not dropped their campaign to make RV'ing politically correct, and they are the only RVing entity to be doing so.
I'll try being nicer if you'll try being smarter.....

I think it was Deen that posted where the "Type" originated. It was not the brain child of FMCA.

FMCA is a great organization. I look forward to the magazine each month, the rallies are good and like others have said, the MEDEX benefit itself ,is worth the membership dues.

Who really cares what type of vehicle you have. Some people have way to much time on there hands to complain ! If you don't like it don't join, but do not tell someone not to join because your not sure what type of motorhomes you have. I have always treated all campers the same no matter what kind of unit they have. Life is way too short....

RV 4 2 wrote: I would recommend you join. For both the noted positives and also some others I have run into. It seems that to belong to some other organizations, you have to be a FMCA member before joining them. The Workhorse Chassis Club for one. You cannot join the club unless you are a FMCA member. I have seen other things like this also. Why, I don't know but they exist. Some clubs are "Chapters" of FMCA and some are not. If a club is a Chapter of FMCA then it's members must be FMCA members. Some clubs are not Chapters of FMCA and therefore their members do not need to be FMCA members.
There are a number of benefits for a club to be a member of FMCA rather than a standalone club. The primary one is insurance in that FMCA automatically covers the club with liability insurance should anything happen through FMCA's umbrella policy for any club event. Otherwise, either risks are taken or money is spent for insurance. There are other administrative benefits to the club as well.
The FMC Owners Club, to which I belong, originally was an independent club, but for the above reasons it elected to become a Chapter of FMCA and it has served the organization well. Most, not all, of the members were already FMCA members anyway.

Just joined within the last week after thinking about it for quite a long time. Benefits are too long to list here, but the website does a good job of that.
Besides, Busskipper's comment regarding the magazine would probably be enough for me as well!
