We purchased a Keystone Couger X-Lite 29BHS. Dry weight is 6200 lbs and have had it out 3 times this summer.

Similar floor plan:

We live in Phoenix (1200') and all of our trips have been to the mountains (7700'). The trip has a couple of really big 6% grades and one long 7%. We haul it with our 2006 Ford Expedition. Though she works hard on the 7% grade the Expy is rated at 8600 lbs and 14500 GCVW.

This trailer is a little heavier than some of the XLites out there, but the interior isn't made of cardboard -- we're very happy with it. Aluminum frame, foam bonded fiberglass sides and a big slide out.

Everyone likes what they have. With the price of gas the best place to go is to a RV Show with a list of trailers and/or manufactures you are interested in. If the trailer your looking for isn't there, than go in one similar in price and you can tell the quality. Gas was cheap when we were looking. We had 50.00 down on another trailer and by chance went by the KZ dealer on the way home. One look at the KZ product, we knew we made a mistake. I called the other dealer and told him we wanted to cancel and tear up the check. The rest is history.

Jayco Featherlight line has a 30R that meets your specs and also look at Sunset Trail, they have a very nice 30' with 4 bunks.

We have a Homestead Settler by Starcraft. Ours has the slide out rear bed that you said you don't want but I'm pretty sure they have another model with the bed you're looking for. We've been very impressed with the quality of the trailer. I'm surprised there aren't more on the road.

We are looking for new quads too. My wife liked the U dinette of the 294, but again only in the floor plan. A couple of U dinettes I've seen in person would seat 5-6 but didn't have table space for them to eat.
Being a cautious person, I had concerns wrt gas and water connections in a slide that would have to be engineered to allow the travel, and the potential wear and tear issues that could arise. Do others have experience with kitchen slides from older models??

I just bought a Forest River Flagstaff Super Lite 27 Bhss. Check it out online. It has a dry weight of 5180 w/ some options. This is also branded as Rockwood in other areas - same unit.

We were set on buying a Passport because they looked fine to me but I heard of quality issues yet I was still not deterred. But then I stepped into a used 2007 285 model and it had a soft floor and smelled of moisture.

Maybe just a bad unit. Who knows.

Try Trail-Lite by Rvision. Just sold my 2002 30ft w/3 bunks in back. Had no problems and its dry weight is 4,300 lbs. Towed it with a 6cyl Astro van.

A friend of ours has a dinette across from the couch and its wonderful on rainy days when they want to play board games. Everyone can sit together. I don't know how that would work out with the couch next to the table. All of these are fabulous units.

Yes, we prefer the idea of couch across from dinette, but most of these models stick with the same design idea of couch and dinette on same wall, be it fixed or slide.

Good luck in your search. We have the Keystone Passport 290BHS. (Like we needed a BH with only 3 of us!) We haven't had any big problems, just normal wear & tear. (And a car hit it this weekend at the campground...) We chose not to have a wall at the master bed - too confined for me & I like being able to walk around.
